Bare Minimum
We wanted a traditional ryokan experience without spending a lot of money. We booked one night for $155 which was a lot compared to our other AirBnB experiences. The staff were very friendly and professional, check in was very easy. However the facilities are very very old and minimal. The walls of our room were worn and stained. Our bathroom was decently clean but had many hairs on the floor. They did have a small common bath that my companion enjoyed. Overall I was very disappointed in our stay and would jot recommend this area to anyone as I assume the hostels in the area would be much more comfortable.

lacking charm of a traditional ryokan
I wouldn't really call this a traditional ryokan. From what I understand, those typically provide meals, or at least breakfast; this does not. The room itself was fine, and as expected, though there was a large, unsightly stain on the floor mat. The bathroom was extremely tiny - felt like a cruise ship bathroom. While it was an easy 15 minute walk from the Kyoto train station, there wasn't much else around and it felt very deserted at night - had to walk 20 minutes to find breakfast each day. Fine, but wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a traditional ryokan experience.

Great experience
It was wonderful to share this rare experience with my two children so that they got to know something other that a regular hotel. It was the best two nights sleep we have all had in along time. A must do in Japan!

Traditional Japanese hotel close to Kyoto station
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was ok, if you are used to sleep in the floor! The location is very good, you can walk to Kyoto station.

Awesome Kyoto hotel
The location is on a main road so it gets noisy at times but honestly that is the only draw back, the staff was extremely nice and spoke English better than most Americans.

Traditional ryokan older style hotel.
Only stayed 1 night and wanted the ryokan experience. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful plus the hotel was in a great location.
The hotel hasn't been updated in a while but was clean and comfortable for a short visit.

Good Ryokan, but...
Very warm welcome and impeccable service. On the other hand, the soundproofing is very poor and we could hear everything that was going on in the street (lots of passing cars and motorcyclists taking advantage of the straight line to accelerate). Apart from that, our room would have deserved to be renovated.
