Grand but disappointing hotel
The hotel is an icon of Pocos de Caldas. Outside and inside it is beautiful. Therefore it really is such a pity that the hotel was disappointing. The rooms are OK - but probably in need of modernisation. The breakfast buffet is one of the best in the city. Service is a serious issue - some staff are great but others appeared to have a bad attitude - one even swore. Another issue with the hotel is the way it seems to make simple things difficult with lots of bureaucracy - at times it is painful. Bureaucracy is a fact of life in Brazil - but there were instances where the hotel took it to a new level. If the hotel improved its service it would make a huge difference because it truly is iconic and mostly beautiful

As it is a city heritage, I understand that it is an old building. I even like it. But it's expensive, unkempt and dirty. The shower was disgusting, the tiles never get clean. I will never recommend this hotel again and I will never recommend it to anyone.

The hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance to shops. Loved the breakfast. Room was nice. The hotel itself needs a lot of renovation. We used the pool, but there was a lot of noise from renovation, not very relaxing. It has seen better days.

The place is wonderful and the staff are helpful. I just noticed a few problems: the TV wasn’t working, the WIFI was really bad or not existing and there were no blankets in the room (the night was chilling).

Mal cuidado

I'd highly recommend this property. It's a step back in time. The room was nice, breakfast was good. The location is fantastic. I think they even upgraded our room. We went in May so it was low season. My only complaint was at check out there was some confusion regarding the bill. I'd already paid through Orbitz, but was given a bill. The amount of which was twice what I'd anticipated. I ended up paying half of the bill because I forgot to change the reservation default from 1 to 2 guests. There was obviously some miscommunication somewhere between Orbitz (Expedia) and the hotel. I understand a higher amount than quoted because of the cost of Breakfast for two people. Double the cost is ridiculous.... But if I'd booked correctly it wouldn't have happened. I was left wondering how much was good faith and how much was price gouging? I'm going to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt. I'll stay again. Bottom line is Book correctly, double check your bill and enjoy.

We scheduled our stay at the Palace Hotel for two nights and boy what a disappointment, we are very familiar with the city and also with the hotel since is one of the most recognized landmarks of Pocos De Caldas. We were give a room in the back of the building, facing the roof over the pool. Terrible view, room was outdated, old furniture, no air conditioner, little plastic fans that the cords didn't even reach the outlet, the only mirror available was in the bathroom above the sink, (we felt like we were in a hospital room from the 70's) Rugs on hallway are worn and full of stains. Pool area was okay. Maybe they have better rooms but not the one they gave us. So even before our first night we requested to be moved to their sister property Carlton Plaza and we were very glad we asked, even though we only stayed for 3 hrs I was charged for a full day of parking. Hope they will work on theses issues.

Hotel stay was confirmed and paid in full. I also contacted Expedia the day prior to my trip and confirmed everything. After a 24hr exhausting trip I arrived to find the hotel closed. No explanations or options were given to me to solve the issue. Unacceptable and unprofessional.

Was not aware that there was no heat in the rooms . It was super cold outside from 7-8 at night until mid morning as it’s their winter. Need some sort of heat for those cold nights . The temp was 35-45 every night we were there .

Do not miss the naturally occurring mineral springs (only available to hotel guests and included with your stay), which have excellent health benefits and high amounts of naturally occuring sulphur. Onsite breakfast is great and has live music on weekends! Best location in the center of Pocos de Caldas, which is a mostly walkable, lively and friendly town.

Beautiful, great location. Needs A/C.
This 1920's-era hotel is beautiful. Hardwood doors, old fashioned hardware, great location in the center of the city. Only downside was lack of electrical outlets and no air conditioning, though the door-size shutters lead to a balcony for a breeze.
