It was "good" -- clean spacious room and plenty of really hot water. Near the historical city center.

Real good value for money
Excellent value for money. The common grounds could use some remodeling. But the rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable with ample work space for business travelers.

At the top of the stairs.
It is an older hotel, but it has a nice modern bathroom and a beautiful view from the breakfast room on the top floor. I got a king size bed and an additional single bed, which I did not use. I told the staff that the safe is not working, and when I returned it was repaired or replaced. The location is at the top of historical stairs that lead on one side to the historical district and on the other side to the restaurant area, which is not far but somewhat tricky to find.

I would stay here if there was no other good option in downtown Porto Alegre. It is sad to see such a important Hotel, with a Beautiful view to the river is falling apart.

Terrible service!!!
This hotel was awful! The first room I got was SO OLD, and the carpet was giving me allergies, so I asked to change rooms. They told me a "reformed" room was 140 reais more expensive, so I had to pay more. After moving to the second room, in the next morning I realized my shower didnt have cold water, so I couldn't shower there. After 25 minutes they moved me to another room, where finally everything was working. At the checkout they wanted to charge me the 140 reais anyways and didnt even apologize for what happened. I told everything that happened to the person in charge by then, and he replied me "But everyhting was ok in the last room, right?". Got really disappointed and payed him, but certainly never getting back there! (I paid 4 times the real price cause of World Cup and still they treated us like that)

Great find!
So I really liked this place. It isn't the Ritz Carlton, but its location, staff, food and amenities make the Everest a great choice for any traveler who doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg on a hotel in Porto Alegre. I thought the location was great, right downtown, and I spent last night and today walking the city, seeing the shops and marketplaces, etc. The rooms are nice, for Brasil, and for this price range. If you're used to American hotels, then you'd think this place might be a little "old school"--the bathrooms could use some updating, but other than that, pretty comfortable. They have a pretty good selection of English TV, which was nice before bed. The breakfast buffet was impeccable! I've had more than my share of those crappy breakfast buffets in my travels. I was truly blown away at the breakfast spread here. Pão de queijo (cheese bread), pound cake, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, and passion fruit juice is what I piled upon my table--there was much more at the buffet as well. The restaurant is on the top floor (16th) with great city views all around. Finally, everyone on the staff here seemed really friendly and always willing help with whatever I needed, be it directions, help with the internet, wake up calls, etc. Always a smile and a true spirit of service from everyone. Only nuisance was how loud the hotel doors are when people slam them here--woke me up a couple times. And I purchased WiFi internet for for the room, or at least I was under the impression it worked in the room, but was unable to connect. So I had to use my laptop in the lobby. No big whoop. Lobby is nice by the way.
