"We recently stayed at the Norbreck Hotel in Blackpool and came away feeling pretty disappointed.
To be fair, there are a couple of positives. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and the hotel has plenty of parking. The building itself is absolutely huge and has so much potential.
Unfortunately, that's where the positives end.
The exterior is tired and run-down, and while it's an impressive-looking building from a distance, it certainly doesn't give off a premium hotel feel. The inside is even more disappointing. For a hotel charging the prices it does, the standard of cleanliness and maintenance was nowhere near acceptable.
Our room had mould and dirt around the windows, a broken drawer, a TV that didn't work, and the condiment tray had black mould inside it. The floorboards squeaked constantly, and the beds were so uncomfortable you could feel the springs through the mattress.
My kids were excited about using the swimming pool, but after seeing the condition of the room, I wasn't comfortable letting them go. If the rooms are being maintained to that standard, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the cleanliness elsewhere.
The whole place feels like it's been untouched for decades. It's outdated, worn out, and desperately in need of investment. That's a real shame because the hotel itself is enormous and could be something special with the right care and attention.
We weren't expecting luxury, but we did expect a clean, well-maintained room. "
