Well...
We all were able to get by but had the sense our flu and subsequent illness came from the room and lack of cleanliness between visitors. No proof, but it was dirty and the timing fit as well as the rapid simultaneous acquisition.

AH!!!
Dont stay here. First of all, its impossible to find and SO expensive for what you get. For those who choose to stay, here are some helpful directions...
Turn (towards the neighborhood) on Kenkunjinjamae. Its pretty much hidden in an alley way.
On a positive side, she attempted to serve us tea when we got there. However, she didnt know we were coming?

If you like warm showers, or a clean bed, this is not the place to stay
Nice traditional townhouse but the facilities are terrible, one of the shower rooms door doesn't close properly and the shower is a bucket on the floor with a hand held showehead which has very low pressure and doesn't get warm. The toilet has a fluffy seat cover which doesn't ever seem to get changed and looked very dirty. The bedsheets don't seem to get changed very often, and there is barely standing room in the dorm with 6 beds, mind you one is a thin mattress on the floor between 4 bunk beds so if you slept there you'd have to watch out for people stepping on you as they get out of heir bunks. Other than that the atmosphere was nice if a little cold at night and it was located right next door to a massive complex of historic temples called Daitokuji which was very beautiful. It's a long way from the station, maybe about half an hours walk, but there is a bus stop about 5 minutes down the road. The house mama is nice and friendly and can speak english if needed.

Tani House for Backpackers
This is quite out of the way on the west side of Kyoto. It is not easy to get to and find, as it is hidden behind behind the house, opposite to the temple. It is right next to the shrine and the burial stones.
The room was taggy and had seen better days. I expected a lot more looking at the pictures posted on the Hotel.com website.. It has a communal toilet and bathroom, with no hot water. Don't go there in the winter.
To sum it up, we booked for two nights, and left after one. It is a cheap backpacker joint.

The hostel is located far from kyoto station. It takes nearly an hour on bus to get there. Room is cheap , so condition including bath and rest rooms and kitchen are not convenient .
Breakfast is provided , but you should pay additionally city tax of 200 yen/person/night that is not charged anywhere else .
