Cozy inn in a beautiful location.
This is a really interesting place to visit. It stands alone at the top of the hill surrounded by miles of raw nature. Stark and beautiful. The room was comfortable; the staff was friendly; the restaurant food was good; and the bar was cozy.

It could have been so much better
The location is a perfect ten, but the staff was far from good. First of all, it took us 1.5 hours to check in, and we didn’t sense any effort to speed up the process. There was a complete lack of willingness from the staff to make our experience enjoyable.
Our room was also dirty, which unfortunately aligned with the poor check-in experience.
The Tan Hill has the potential to be amazing. It has everything going for it—except the staff, who failed to make our stay pleasant.

This is a great, quiet, safe location, the staff are nice enough and the accommodation/food are of an acceptable standard but painfully expensive for what you get. In particular, there is a severe lack of bathroom facilities for the non en-suite rooms to share.

very unique property with lots of character. the double room was miniscule however and very small indeed. despite the claims on their website of a dog friendly room where a bed, water bowl and snacks would be provided none of this was and instead i got one bag of gravy bones left outside the door for the second night which i suppose was something.

The door on the pod we stayed in did not lock, we had to take our belongings with us and leave it unlocked.
Otherwise amazing place, lovely food and staff.

Fabulous experience at the Tan Hill Pub
Staying in Tan Hill is a unique atmospheric experience. The bar is warmed by open fires and both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Staff are attentive and friendly. Outside the temperature dropped and the mist enveloped the hotel which all adds to the experience. We cannot recommend the pub and hotel more highly. We attended an excellent talk while we were there from a previous owner full of hilarious anecdotes in a purpose built events space again heated by an enormous wood burning stove.

Great beer & whisky selection. Enjoyable food. Clean room, although the term "compact & bijou" was taken to its fullest extent. Bathroom was a joke! Think coffin!!! Lots of merchandise, if you want bragging rights. Everything top whack price!

The evening meal was absolutely gorgeous however the breakfast was a different matter the lady was rude and not very helpful everything seemed like too much trouble I think maybe she was on her own but we only asked for the basics ie: brown bread , water for the tea etc

Not worth the money, breakfast was awful with one front of house member trying to do everything by herself, it was actually embarrassing. Trying to see to all the guests along with 20 camper vans of people. I felt really sorry for her.

Dome tent nice but shared, tiny, dirty shower room
All the lovely views, atmosphere and good service were cancelled out by the toilet and shower.
We paid £166 for the night and couldnt use the toilet for the queue of campers who paid £10. Had to go into the closed pub at 7am and pee with the door wedged open because the lights were off.
The shower room is tiny and serves 16 staying in the pub and another 2 dozen campers. There was no shower gel, a filthy muddy floor and a dirty single bath mat being used by everyone.
The luxury dome had a comfortable bed and nice bedding but the kettle was dirty and the cupd hwer dirty.
