I had booked to stay here for 5 nights but upon arrival I found the place to be dingy, the host nonchalant, and the mattress dirty (I believe there were bed bugs but cannot be certain). I explained that I couldn’t stay due to the condition of the mattress and Will, the owner, seemed indifferent and began to defend the riad and its cleanliness. He then charged me 80 dirham for a taxi ride from the train station to his place. I was surprised by this because he had sent me an email stating someone would be there to pick me up (even though I hadn’t requested it) and he made no mention of the cost in his email. Furthermore, a fare from the train station to his place should have been maximum 30 dirham (I was not being picked up at the airport which is much further away). Again, Will became defensive saying he didn’t know how much a cab fare should be! He’s lived in the country for years and he doesn’t know the normal cab fare....? Very strange. I was happy to leave a short while later but, again, was dumbfounded that he wouldn’t show me the way out (it is quite a difficult maze to get to his riad). I travel often, have been to Morocco many times, and am well aware of different standards in different countries but this was unacceptable. Based on my short time in the riad and my interaction with Will, I do not recommend this place. I am really surprised by the other high review scores, but am happy that others enjoyed their time there.
