8/10 Very Good

I needed a last-minute economical room to stay in before my son's MTB race in Steamboat. The John Denver theme room looked "interesting" and was the only one available. Last minute my younger daughter decided to come also. I brought a foam mattress and sleeping bag for her. Kids were sort of skeptical when we parked (they need a better parking lot light, btw). We all thought it was sort of cool, with the log cabin style headboard and wall treatment. Bathroom had a strange layout with only a small space between the toilet and corner of the shower, to access the sink. Anyhoo, it worked for one night although we were a bit sleep deprived in the morning because there wasn't really any room for the bedroll on the floor because sonny insists on bringing in his beloved and expensive bike inside due to fear of theft, even when locked up. We all slept in the comfy king bed but daughter moves a lot when sleeping so it wasn't the best sleeping situation. Anyways, all in all, an OK place to stay for a night

The best part about staying at this hotel is the fact it’s an old property. The hotel is charming and rustic. I could imagine Doc Holliday and Kate staying there; don’t know if they ever did, but the rooms and set up make one think that.

2/10 Poor

Reserved a room for 2 nights. At 2:30pm on the way driving to the hotel I received a call saying that there was a house keeping issue with the room we had reserved & “unfortunately we don’t have a room for you this evening.” They did end up finding a room for 1 night but said that’s all she could do.No room for the remainder of our stay! When we arrived 40 minutes later no mgr or clerk to be found. Next morning same results. No one around to find out about the rest of our reservation. No calls or email from the hotel! Bad business practices!!

Would not recommend this place
This was one of the worst hotels I have stayed in. The fan and overhead light were connected, the remote did not work, and so we could not have a fan on overnight. I got locked out outside because there was no front desk, and because they neglected to say that there was a code to get back into the building in the morning. The place is neat but very shabby. We never saw or spoke to anyone affiliated with the hotel. I appreciate a family-run business, but things like a fan, and getting into the hotel, are things that should be basic to a hotel.

6/10 Good

For an old-time western hotel it was not bad. I booked the John Denver room for fun. However, there was no hot water evening or morning and the truck traffic noise was bad. The old hotel was on the main route, so traffic should have been expected, but it wasn't. For a lark, and and a throw-back experience, it was ok, but not for comfort.

Do not recommend.
The room was hot. Without AC. The floors creaked so badly that every step was audible by everyone regardless of which room they were in. The bathroom was so bad I was not willing to even shower in it. Had two nights reserved but left early so as not to have to sleep there a second night.

Staff Help
Charming old building with lots of potential. The squeaks and creaking floors were reminders of times past. Was difficult to reach staff as the front desk, office area was not attended full time. Phone calls were not returned a few times.

Main room with 2 beds was clean, decided not to shower since it appeared old and rusty, toilet never worked during our one night stay. Plunger on-site didn’t help. No A/C, tried opening the windows but had another storm window that.made it difficult to get outside air. If on 2nd floor, will need to carry all bags up. Walls are thin and wooden floors are extremely creaky. The place has potential but needs a lot more work.

It was all right for the one night I stayed there. If it would have been for more than one night I would have driven elsewhere for other accommodations. Floor was incredibly squeaky!! Room was horribly hot and t.v. was basically like not having a t.v. at all with a roku fire stick plugged in and really not able to get much. I understand that this place has been around since the early 1900's so I didn't expect much but the owners have tried to make it comfortable by giving each room a theme and making it as cozy as possible.

The hotel has a great location within walking distance of everything in town. The art and antiques are a bonus. Both nights I was there I had to listen to a young couple who did not put their toddler down, one night approaching midnight. I might suggest you implement a "Quiet Time," say 10 PM and enforce it.
