Lovely stay, food was fantastic. Both evening meal and breakfast was devine. Room was beautiful and immaculate. Great castle with lots of history, we did the castle tour that they do every morning which we thought was a lovely touch.

A real castle
What an amazing place. A real medieval castle full of interesting historical features. Staff very friendly. Room large and comfortable (except the pillows which are a bit flat and lumpy). Food was excellent st dinner.

Hexham trip
Stunning drive in in late evening all very impressive, we ate at the hotel from the bar menu which was not offered initially until we asked for it. Our room was in the cottages, heating was off, november stay so would have expected a warm welcome. could get the TV to work despite good instructions. Staff offered to help when asked wgoch was great. Rooms were a little tired and functional which given the setting was a surprise, an opportunity missed. Bed, however, was very comfortable and immense. The row of 3 pillows offering intreging possibilities Basically a good place to stay but not quite as exciting as appearance suggested as somehow lacked a finishing touch I would stay again but perhaps not the same room.

Beautiful place to stay.
What a lovely place to stay! A beautiful and very traditionally styled venue. Nice to see an old building that has t been completely modernised inside. We had a Castle View Suite and it was beautiful, and very comfortable. Service was superb and all staff were very helpful and attentive. The little tour of the castle on the morning after our overnight stay was a nice little treat and it was very interesting to learn the history of the castle.

This was a 'unique' experience for my German guest. She was very impressed by the 'old english' atmosphere which the property always instills... even on me, an Englishman. A delight.

It was a great experience to stay in a real castle. The castle , the bedroom, the staff, the breakfast, the dinner and the TOUR was great. Expensive but worth every penny.

Interesting place. You're more than likely not staying in the actual Castle. Rather, in building a short walk down a hill. We stayed in the middle of the week, so no weddings in the way. Our room had an amazing bathroom. The Staff wasn't rude, but also wasn't very nice. The restaurant was expensive and limited choices, but it was nice to have breakfast each morning. It was nice to have a stay in the country. So quite and calm.

Spectacular castle set in beautiful surroundings however I'm afraid I came away a little disappointed. Lots of cobwebs in our room and the in room furniture was in need replacing. This was a theme which repayed throughout the hotel. There was real lack of attention to detail. The other issue was the staff- with the exception of two waiters and one fron of house , they generally seem to lack enthusiasm for the role and paid little attention to the guests. I feel more training is needed in this area. If they can sort thisbissue out and begin replacing the old worn furniture then they a far more likely to see more guests returning.

Five Stars
An extremely nice place, almost too swank for me! But it was very comfortable, the service was excellent, and both the hotel and the surrounding countryside are beautiful. Well worth the trip, especially if you have an interest in history.

4/10 Fair

I stayed in the DeLucy room #2. In the morning it was noisy. I believe the staff room is just below. For a posh castle, the food was horrific. French fries with a simple 10 oz rib eye steak cost 58.50 £. It was horrible!
