I enjoyed my stay in the Canak Hotel. The hotel is easy to find, being situated on the corner of the main road to the ferry terminal. The members of staff I met at reception and in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. I had a suite on the fifth floor with a good view of the ferry terminal and the Dardanelles beyond. The rooms were comfortable and the linen clean. The hotel's greatest attraction is the restaurant on the seventh (and top) floor. This has a spectacular view across the Dardanelles towards the Gallipoli peninsula. One can see both fortresses guarding the narrowest point of the Dardanelles and watch the ships on their way to Istanbul. The view is particularly good at sunset. I enjoyed a substantial Turkish breakfast and an excellent and reasonably priced buffet dinner on each night of my stay. My one disappointment was to not to find any British, American, French or German news available on the television in my room. The only English news available was on Japanese television! This I watched with interest and also enjoyed films on Turkish television. Perhaps I should have searched harder? The hotel makes a good base for trips to Troy and Gallipoli as well as visiting the Naval Museum in Canakkale or even, on the waterfront, the Wooden Horse used in the film "Troy" starring Brad Pitt! I can certainly recommend the Canak Hotel and would be very happy to stay there again.
