"I’ve never left a bad hotel review before, and I wasn’t going to leave one this time either. Then the guy at the front desk tried to bribe me for a 5-star review, and here we are.
The night before checkout, I asked for a few extra hours of parking the next day. He said he’d only add it if I gave him a 5-star review. The stay wasn’t 5-star, and asking for a bribe in exchange for parking was wildly unprofessional. I didn’t trust him to add the time, so the next day I went back and asked someone else at the desk. There was no note on my account. The other staff said extending parking is routine and never a problem, and they added it right away. Nobody apologized for what their coworker had done.
The room had a lot of issues. Stains on the bathrobes, stains on the carpet, dust everywhere, and gunk in the sink. The carpet felt grimy like it had never been properly cleaned. Garbage was left by the elevators. The bathroom sink and counter were so small water went everywhere. Amenities were lacking — no lotion, and only plastic cups.
I also didn’t sleep well. The blankets were so thin they were basically sheets, the pillows were uncomfortable, the room was noisy, and the curtains were broken so they didn’t close all the way and light came in all night.
The website photos made the hotel look nicer than it was, and if staff are bribing guests for 5-star reviews, it makes sense the ratings are higher than they deserve. I stay at hotels a lot and I won’t be staying at Sandman again."
