2/10 Poor

Just give it a wide berth!
The mould on the shower ceiling aggravated my asthma and gave me a chest infection. I had to leave this place mid stay due to the health problems it was causing me. Awful bed, not clean, they wouldn’t provide any kind of refund via Hotels.com. I will be reporting this place with the pictures I took to the authorities after the festive period.

2/10 Poor

Tired and shabby but cheap.
Little more than a doss house to be honest. Dirty, smelly rooms with mouldy en-suites. I cut my stay short after developing a chest infection from their mould infested shower ceiling in room 11. They won’t be interested in this review so it’s probably not worth it in the end. But if it stops one person wasting their money in this place, it’ll be worth the effort. The cleaners seemed nice, but not able to deal the frankly Sisyphean task of maintaining these rooms. The sinks are caked in scale, the toilets are in inaccessible positions for the most part for anyone taller than 5 foot and the rest of the room is just so dirty and shabby that’s it seems pointless to even mention it (see pictures instead). The mattresses are without a trace of hyperbole the worst I've ever attempted to lay upon (as I can’t actually say sleep on as there was precious little of that happening). I had to cut my stay short in the end after contracting a chest infection from the active black mould patch on the ceiling of the shower in room 11. Still, it’s cheap. So if you’re prepared to take your very life and sanity in your hands to save a buck (like I thought I was prepared to do) give it a go.
Black mould ceiling of shower in room 11
Chipped and dirty side table
Terribly managed planning in en suites.

It is a lovely inn with two bars, the choice of food on the menu is very good, it was served piping hot, and good portions. The hotel is in need of an upgrade the mattress was soft and saggy. The room faced onto the high St and was subject to traffic noise, one of the pull down blinds was broken and did not pull up. But for the price paid it was ok

Nice little place. Nothing fancy at all but the staff were very friendly and the beer was nice. Room was super basic, but was also super cheap so to be expected. Bed was comfortable enough. Would stay again if it I was on my own.

4/10 Fair

I am an Highworthian, I love the town and love to make visits to see relatives and old friends, and this was the purpose of my recent visit and my reason for booking a weekend at the Saracens Head. I will break my review into two. Firstly, the pub; friendly, enjoyable food, great ale, well appointed with the bars, restaurant, TV / smokers area and gardens, large car park area, as a modern-day pub I would rate it with 4 stars. Secondly as a hotel; we were shown into room 8, a twin room, although I was pretty convinced that I had booked a double, but put that down to me. The bed was comfortable and the bedding nice and crisp and clean, great so far. The furniture in the room consisted of two, 4 drawer cabinets, one with 1 drawer missing, 1 broken, and another with a pull handle missing, the cabinet had been painted but now showed batches of bare wood. The top of the cabinet housed the tea making facility; two random mugs, one spoon and all ingredients stuffed into one bowel. The second cabinet appeared ok, this one housed the TV; but no controller, so. no TV. There was no provision for clothes hanging. There was a single bedside cabinet but no bedside lighting One painted wall was covered in marks and the brown carpet looked quite dirty. Following my complaining I was told that the manager would come in and see me by 5.30, well, he did come in but never came to talk to me, I was passed a message informing me that ‘tomorrow I will move to another room and that I would be reimbur

This hotel is amazing!!!! It has so much personality, great staff, a wonderful pub to go to where one can enjoy a great dinner, other great places to go to within walking distance. And it's right next to a bus stop so it is possible to go further off and just come back in the evening. This was such a fantastic experience, and I can't wait to go back to Highworth and The Saracen's Head Hotel!!!!

It's a lovely building. I'm a heavy bloke and really did not get on with the mattress, very 'soft' (old?)... And it was a bit of a squeeze getting past the sink into the shower... But I booked a cheap room!
