A touch of class
This hotel is really different. Set like a modern art museum the rooms are well appointed and feels like a touch of luxury. Great location by Te Papa. A few annoying things, taxis drop you at the back door due to one way streets and that door is locked. Nothing like standing in windy wellington waiting for someone to answer the buzzer, then the phone when I gave up on the buzzer. That was a pain. Ask your taxi to loop around to main entrance. The a-la-carte breakfast was great but some days its the worlds smallest buffet for over $30. I was insulted, that was a rip off. Bar staff great, fabulous gin bar, rooms fantastic, but plan to have breakfast elsewhere on buffet days!

Lovely room although I would have appreciated an extra blanket as I preferred to leave the aircon off during the night. The lighting was quite dark and moody but it would have been good to have the option of bright lighting too. The shower handset didn't slot into the slide attachment so the rose/head tended to move around causing water to leak out under the door on to the bathroom floor. These were minor inconveniences though (just feedback). Staff happily changed my room so that my window didnt look directly into the gym! The location was excellent and the staff were lovely.

2 Night stay for 3
Beautifully, beautifully, clean room, 10/10 to the pleasant, friendly, cleaning staff. Not sure why we had to deal with the consierge as well as the people at the front desk. It was not immediately clear to me, who was who. Suddenly, upon check-out I was told the cost for 2 nights of valet parking was now $100 instead of the $80 it was at check-in and in the email communications I had received since I booked the accomodation, 2 months prior. Bad manners I thought. (but I paid it of course). One of the night duty staff were not able to sort an issue with the coffee machine in our room other than to say he thought it was faulty. He tried but couldn’t find a replacement. He apologised but still left the faulty machine in the room. At check-out I let the front desk staff know. The water from the shower flows out under the shower door even with the bath mat there, onto the tiles. One needs to take care not to slip over. It may be an idea to put in some type of stopper/grid cover in the bathroom basin to avoid anything falling down drain. (Just a suggestion).

Hotel disappointing
Hotel disappointing, would have thought hotel of this price, over $350 with breakfast and car parking, could at least supply good coffee in room, not just instant. One of reasons for choosing this hotel was the restaurants which on arrival find one closed for refurbishment and the other not serving dinner although there was food available in lounge bar, none of this mentioned when booking. My wife and I attended show and arrived back at hotel about 5 to 10 to find no food available in hotel, restaurant closed and no room service available. Seems like more attention given to the great art works in hotel than clientele. Plus was staff great and breakfast good. Would not stay here again

Beautiful works of art throughout the property. Pool, sauna, and hot tub were very nice. My only negative is no proper sitting area in the room. There was plenty of room for a sofa and coffee table but there was just a metal mesh chair. The chair looked cool but was extremely uncomfortable to sit on.

Old Hotel in Need of an Upgrade
This was a disappointing stay to end our trip in New Zealand. The hotel is in a great location and while the place was understaffed the clearly overworked staff were helpful and kind. The hotel itself has seen better days, though and I expected more from an IHC hotel. Tiles were falling off in the pool. The mattresses in our room were saggy and the bathroom ceiling had water stains and mold. The bathroom especially was basically unusable given its layout. Overall I wouldn’t stay here again until some serious renovations were made.

4/10 Fair

Room type that was booked was not available, the solution provided did not meet our requirements nor was it of an equivalent standard to what we paid for. Issue with booking was not acknowledged at check in, we had to find out after walking into the room. Message to manager went unanswered. We have visited this property for business requirements many times over the years and this was our first family visit. Overall very disappointed with the standard these days and the general lack of attention to customers.

Great room layout amd location for our stay w 2 adults, 2 children. Really interestingly property decor, and breakfast a la carte also delicious. Service was great, only main thing for us was no options for childrens tv/movies etc or casting to have movie night in which we'd planned. Bathroom space and bath were great, but shower design meant quite a bit of excess water regularly.
