2/10 Poor

If you rent a kitchenette, be prepared to BRING EVERYTHING YOU MIGHT NEED. This is a super run down Motel, the kitchen was so undersupplied that our plans to cook were abolished and we were forced to pay to eat out. It had a few dishes, no knives, no cutting board, one baking dish, one small pot. No dish soap!! and yet there are big signs stating you will be charged if you leave dirty dishes. The carpets were stained, the room moist dank, and bed spread must original, from the 1970s. The place is a dump, siding with rotten holes in it all over, the check in is in another building on another street, so is the pool, which we didn’t bother with. Expecting a similar state of disrepair. At a cost of almost 300$ a night, robbery

This property is clean and centrally located to most shops and restaurants in Ucluelet. Great access to trails and grocery shopping and tour operators!

Good overall value
Overall i was happy with this stay. For the price point, it had a decent location, and pleanty of value. Exterior is roughish, interior was decent.

The whale’s tale building’s exterior is getting to the embarrassing point. Siding is missing or rotting in many places. Walls are paper thin so if you have a lower level room, you’ll be hearing stomping all night until they decide it’s time for YOU to go to sleep. Be aware that the pool is public (fee) so vagrants and bush people shower there regularly. I’ll spend the extra money and stay somewhere next time that invests in the maintenance of their property.

We enjoyed the apartment style extra space in the unit and the full kitchen. The unit was clean but quite basic.

Older property but interior was clean and functional. The exterior is need of an update. Only concern was we couldn't open any of the windows to get some fresh air. No air conditioning so likely would be quite hot on a warmer day. A bit pricey but nice to have a kitchen and sitting area.

2/10 Poor

We stayed at the Whale's Tail for two nights. The suite had a bit of a musty, cigarette smoke smell, with lots of stains on the carpet. The bathroom door knob was very loose, as was the toilet seat. The door knob assembly is held together with two screws and both were loose, with one of them almost completely backed out. The toilet seat was the same, causing it to slide around all over the place. I had a multi-tool in the car, so I was able to fix the seat and door knob. In the bedroom, on the night stand, was some granola and crumbs from a previous guest's snack. How do you miss that? How do you miss the toilet seat and bathroom door knob almost falling off? Unfortunately the worst was yet to come. In the morning there was some water on the bathroom counter around the sink. I thought my daughter must have made a bit of a mess when she washed up the night before. I cleaned it up, and I didn't think anything of it. We went out for the day and when we returned in the evening there was a big puddle of water on the bathroom counter. Closer inspection revealed that even though the faucet was off, there was water dripping from the handle down the backside and pooling on the counter. Everything on the counter was soaked, including my canvas and leather toiletry bag and all of it's contents. I tried to manipulate the handle to stop the water, and thought that I had done so, but there was a pool of water on the counter the next morning also.

Just OK
Although the room was clean and comfortable, the outside of the building looked a bit dumpy with rotting siding, no outside light fixtures and a shared, dirty bbq. A little bit of maintenence could go a long way. Considering the nightly rate, i would expect more

Not good for families with small children.
Not good if you have small children as they did not have top lock on the front door. So there was nothing stopping them from opening the door. Safety issue. Also the pool was not on site it was in a different hotel with not so good times.

Great little apartment with a full kitchen and bath. Perfect for exploring Ucluelet by foot. The bed was comfy but the pull out sofa was very uncomfortable. The second night I just left it as a sofa to sleep on. The staff were very friendly and even offered to still let us use the sauna upon check out. I would definitely consider staying here again.

If you make judgments based on “looks”this is not the place for you. It could use a refresh. However, it “works” with the vibe of the area. After all, you are not in Manhattan. It is clean and extremely comfortable. Well laid out. Fully equipped. We would definitely stay here again
