The staff was terrific and the food was excellent. Reception was extraordinarily helpful with orientation to the area, use of public transportation and we particularly appreciated the very positive and joyful service in the dining room. The enthusiasm of the staff made us feel well cared for and very welcome.

The hotel is very well located in the center of the old town of Horgen and still close to the lake and public transport. The room was quite cosy, but since the building is very old, one can hear a lot of footsteps from the room above. Other than that and the too stuffed pillows, my stay was great. Lots of attention to detail and a huge selection on the breakfast buffet.

Historic Hotel close to public transportation
very nice historic hotel in historic part of town. Ready access to public transportation as main train station is in short walking distance. Rooms are small but very cozy and comfortable.

The hotel and staff were lovely!!! The breakfast was delish! It was the perfect end to our European holiday. We so greatly appreciated the staff and their help! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The room was exceptionally clean and views were beautiful. Highly recommend this hotel for your stay!!

Wonderful hotel
Excellent hotel with lots of charm. Large room and all amenities, portable air con which was great. We stayed 7 nights and could not have picked better.
Lovely breakfast served.
Staff are excellent, attentive and polite, nothing is too much trouble. Great location to train station to get about and Horgan is a pretty suburb.
Host runs a very efficient hotel, we will definately recommend to others.

Hotel Schwan has always been a nice place to stay. It was recently purchased by new owners who have changed up the offerings a bit and bring a very welcoming feel to the hotel! It was a noticeable difference and really made a difference.

This was such a lovely hotel! I felt like I was in a Disney movie. Beautiful hotel and surrounding area. Cobbled stone streets, charming clock tower and old buildings everywhere. Near lake Zurich. Absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately being in a small town, my partner faced some discrimination. I am white and “looked” Swiss and had no problems, he is Persian and got many stares and was not treated respectfully by all in this small community.

Everything was beyond expectation!
The village was beautiful, the hotel was wonderful, the room was adorable. The entire staff was amazing! Pascal checked me in and asked what I was traveling for and then remembered across my entire stay and asked how the concert was! The gentleman at the desk assisted me with the public transportation schedule. Sabrina and the other girls were all very attentive at breakfast and it was delicious. I only had time for one dinner in the hotel and it was just fantastic.
First time traveling to Switzerland and will not be the last. Thank you so much for an impressive first experience.

The room and the bathroom was fine but the floor was creaky; recommend that they install carpet pads or something. Every time one walk on the floor, the floor shake. We are not heavy set people.

management didnt except the fact that we had been given a sub standard room and not the one we booked. Very minimal and poor house keeping, reported blocked sink on a number of occasions nothing done, nothing available in the evening most of the time, this property is more like a bed and breakfast not a hotel, we were very disappointed. No customer care at all.

Charming hotel with 5 star food
Hotel has a ton of charm located in a very cute town just outside of Zurich. Owners are wonderful and very hospitable. Hotel is surrounded by cute shops and across from a great wine bar. Only a short walk to the Horgen train station. Only a 15-20 min Uber or train ride to Lindt. Not really a downfall but more of a PSA… the hotel does not have a working lift so if you are in the top room like us, it was quite a few steps to go up with luggage. Top room does not have WiFi. Not a problem for us as we had hot spots but if you need to work, that room is not ideal.
The food at the restaurant was by far our favorite meal while traveling in Europe. Highly suggest dining at the tavern on site.

I was surprised not to find air conditioning in the facility but I guess thats common in these kind of historic European buildings. Having said that, it is so charming and well situated and the staff was so thoughtful and accommodating that it more than made up for this detail. They aired the room with fans, called me to set up convenient after hours check in and did all they could to make me comfortable. Exceptional people. Will look forward to seeing them again!

Three issues:
- there is a lift but it cannot be used by customers who arrive with luggage, and nobody offers to help…
- the electric plugs do not work 100% ( one out of three was dead…)
- the internet was working sporadically only
In conclusion, the price charged is excessive.

This hotel is in a quiet city about 30 minutes (by train) from Zurich.
If you want a quiet place to stay, that is close enough to Zurich, this is a great option, but the hotel does not have an elevator. If you are unable to walk stairs, this is not a hotel for you.
Breakfast is a normal European breakfast.
The restaurant was closed for holiday, so we could not try it for dinner or lunch.
The hotel is a little odd in there is not much staff. When you arrive, your keys are left on the desk in an envelope with your name and a letter.
The only real issue I had with our room, and may or may not be in all rooms, the tub was so high on the sides, I could not get out without almost falling. I am 5'0 tall.
This was dangerous for a short person like myself. Since there is no staff on site when you check in (we arrived around 3:15 pm), you cannot request another room.
The room was large, with no AC (I assume this is common in Switzerland since we did not find AC in most places). The room has a fan, so that with an open window was fine even in 80 degree outside.
We were also able to get to Germany, Rhine Falls, Chur and Austria within a reasonable amount of time from this city.
Notes:
There are not many restaurant options in this quiet, smaller town.
Most businesses are closed by 8:00 pm and all day Sunday.
The S2 train and the S8 trains are the two main trains for the city.
Our next trip would be to another city, but if I were planning Zurich area again, this hotel would be an option.
