Great meal, accommodation a little basic
The good: staff are nice and are helpful and I think the place is well run. Glad to find a glass each and charging points for phones in the room. There is a reasonable size TV. The room is a little larger than a budget hotel room and the bed is very wide. There is a bath. There is free wi-fi for which you have to give your details to the supplier and answer a survey question. The less good: There are three flights of steps to get down from the car park to the entrance. As in some budget chains now no loo brush, which is not nice. Milk comes in small tubes that you have to use several of and which splash everywhere on opening. Hair and body wash supplied boasts eco friendliness but does not lather and is no good to me as shampoo. I found the Holmfield Arms as accommodation to be overall like a budget hotel but costs slightly more. It's a good place to eat and drink, providing relaxed casual dining with a menu of various burgers, roast dinners, pies, and much more. I enjoyed my ultra burger. I might not go for accommodation here again.

The hotel itself was gorgeous. A big shout out for Katie, the charming, smiling young waitress for whom nothing was too much trouble. Excellent customer service skills. Thanks Katie. However, OUTSIDE we were appalled to see 12 rat poison bait boxes in the immediate vicinity of reception. Rat poison is lethal to anything that then eats the dead rat, including owls, foxes, cats and dogs. It’s a slow and agonising death- cruel in the extreme. A rat actually sat in the middle of the road for 5 mins in front of our car- a sure sign it had poison on board. Far better to use snap traps placed in a secure place away from people and other animals. The rat will die instantly with no danger to our wildlife and domestic pets.
