We had high hopes for this ryokan, and while the stay was overall great, there were a few downsides. The property itself is gorgeous, and the staff was kind and attentive, but the place definitely had a noticeable mildew smell, which took away from the experience a bit.
Unfortunately, we missed out on both breakfast and dinner because we didn’t book those in advance (lesson learned). I tried reaching out 24 hours before check-in but never got a response, so just a heads-up to plan meals ahead of time. There’s also not much nearby that’s open for breakfast or dinner, which left us scrambling a bit.
That said, it’s still a lovely place to stay if you’re prepared, and the traditional vibe of the ryokan is worth experiencing.
