This last minute booking on a bank holiday was only £61. You’re getting a reasonable place for that amount. Yes it is in desperate need of modernisation but ideal for just a bed for the night

Good hotel, few minor improvements needed
Unexpected last minute booking on the way to Hove. I chose to book the Albany due to the short distance between the train station and the beach and the reasonable price of around £100 for my young son and I. Upon arrival we were greeting with a very friendly face and shown to our room. I was told it was on the third floor which was fine and I think there was a lift (did not use as do not like lifts!) so the trek up the stairs and through about 3 doors was quite exhausting. However, we were happy with the room, one double bed and separate bathroom, which hosted a shower, sink and toilet. For what I paid for the room, I would not expect the Ritz but there was a lot to be desired, which in fairness could be quick fixes for the hotel. The blind did not stay up so I had to tie this down. Although tea/coffee making facilities were plentiful, there was no spoon to stir and I did not want to make the trip down the stairs just for this reason! The shower is a little dated and the head itself was very high up and in a set position so I could not point this down onto me so it took a little careful setting. The shower itself worked fine. The towels however were so small, luckily I had brought my own. The mattress of the double bed in room 318 could do with replacing. I had a terrible night's sleep because of the amount of springs digging into me. The cleanliness could have been improved. Otherwise, the room was quiet and dark. Overall I would rate this an acceptable stay.

Wouldn't stay again
Upon check in we were asked if there waa four people staying which we advised rhere was 3 (we booked for 3). We were told that the room we booked waa for 4 and asked if we would move to a room for 3 people. We explained that we deliberatly booked the room for 4 due ro the layout and the fact the 2 single beds were in a separate bedroom within the same room. The check in staff then stated he would need to speak to someone to check this was ok. We booked and paid for the larger room but we were being questioned about whether we could have the room we booked which was very rude. Anyway he came off the phone saying it was ok. Once in the room there was no remote for the TV so i went back to reception where he gave me one, it didn't work but my husband managed to use the buttons on the side of the tv so lefr it. Double bed is in a terrible state with the base being unstable and the mattress lumpy. Bathroom, green mould along the shower screen, broken toilet seat lid and generally dirty. Window in the smaller room wouldn't close at the top. Thankfully it was hot and the noise from the street didn't wake our 4 year old. There were clean towels, and the bedding wad clean. Usual supply of tea/coffee etc. Its a lovely sized room with the benefit of a second bedroom, however it is falling into disrepair, curtains were not even fully on the curtain rail, net curtains were dirty & stained. Its a shame as it was clearly once a lovely hotel. Only reason we stayed waa due to late check in

Lovey, helpful staff. Hotel room needs a deep clean, dust and peeled off paint on the curtains which all came down when drawing them. Fabric pealing off the head board. Mould in the bathroom. Broken drain on the bathrom floor which was dangerous. We are not fussy, so to put this review is unlike us. But was ultimately a place to put our heads down and sleep for a night so did the job but wouldnt want to be staying here for more than 1 night. Beds were confortable.
