Carpark view
Enjoyed our stay my only criticism would be we were not in the main hotel and had a view of the car park. We had to cross over the carpark for breakfast so if it was raining could really spoil your breakfast vibe. The room also had very poor lighting so was very hard to read at night and in the day.

Wont be booking here again
The stay started ok and the room was nice. I had had a long day travelling and working. I ordered some food from the bar, an hour later my food still hadn't arrived. I went to reception to complain as I couldn't find anyone else. She called the catering manager to come and see me. After 10 minutes he came out the receptionist told him the problem. He looked at me as if to say how dare you complain and walked off without saying anything to me. I told him not to walk away from me and he glared and continued to walk. I went packed my bags got a refund and left to find a much nicer hotel with helpful people.

Family trip to Durham
Hotel v clean Upon check in to room , the room was boiling hot. We immediately turned down the thermostat and opened the r windows. When I called reception they explained that many of the rooms on my floor had been impacted by faulty air con systems and that an engineer was coming tomorrow. We did then get two fans in to the room. The room was so hot that even two fans didn’t keep the temperature down so we had to have windows and curtains open to ventilate the room. It was in excess of 30 degrees - we were sweating and went through 2 litres of water overnight. This was a known issue before we had checked in and I was surprised they didn’t offer to change room , provide any drinks or any complementary refreshments . Room was a good size but with windows open , the noise of the city was very loud, the room hot, fans going all night so we didn’t get a good sleep Next day I tried to change our cab to the station and after waiting 15 mins then had to chase up as it hadn’t been done, by which time it was quicker to walk with our bags to the station I did expect more attentiveness and standard from a Marriott hotel and although the lady who delivered our fans was lovely and kind, the rest of service was below 4 star

Lovely hotel and atmosphere. Extremely well looked after by Gavin on the front desk. Gym in good condition and plenty of kit. Rooms a touch tired. Breakfast smashing. Great hash browns.

The maze hotel of Durham!
Hotel is rated four star, I felt it was three at best. Our room was at the rear of the hotel building near the river. Our window faced in the Courtyard main Road area. It was a maze to get to the room up to level two! But you had a long walk to the rear area, then from floor two you had to go down stairs again to level one. It was upstairs downstairs to the room. The room was a little dated, furniture was dark like the 1990s,carpets of the whole hotel were well used and in need of a clean or replacement. Took two attempts to find the room. A little frustrating are we arrived wet. And needed in the room fast. Breakfast was ok! With the standard breakfast choice! If older people stay ask for a map.

Great Stay for Business Trip
I stayed at the Marriott in Durham for three nights on a business trip, and it was excellent. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, perfect for unwinding after a busy day. Breakfast each morning was delicious, with a good variety of options, and the staff were attentive and friendly. The hotel’s location was convenient and well connected to the city. Overall, it was a great experience - I’d definitely stay here again!

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Thats as good as it's gets really, we got a superior room and was very basic. The pillows were so thin we needed extra, brown stains on the netting at the windows, what looks like round bleach or paint stains on the wallpaper and mould in the bathroom. People kept standing outside the windows and smoking (staff included) and it was so loud as staff bins and laundry was kept near the windows that we barely slept through the night. The walls are so thin we hers people's toilets flushing and the upstairs shower sounded like a storm outside how loud it was, I actually woke up thinking it was thundering. Breakfast was good and facilities were okay.
