The hotel is basic, a little tired, but fine. The real issue is that they demanded a 'deposit' of £100 per room in case of damage. This had not been mentioned before and, as I had booked five rooms for a group, they wanted £500 off me. They said I would get it back after the rooms were inspected but it's a lot of money to be expected to lend them for a few days.

It was ok
As other reviews state the general maintenance and decor is overall 'tired' but it was clean and the staff were very friendly. It served the purpose we needed it for (right next door to the Piece Hall) and was much cheaper than the local Premier Inn.

The man who checked us in was great. Really friendly and polite. Hotel is great for the peace hall. No pillow protectors and pilllows were a little worse for wear. Generally the hotel was clean. The room we stayed in was dated but fine. For the price i would stay again if visiting the peacehall.

Very dated. Lazy maintenance, nobs missing off drawers, leaking shower panel, the divan bed for example one half has wheels one didn't. I mean just take the wheels off.... Staff were very friendly however and helpful so cannot fault that aspect. Stayed one night for a gig at the Piece hall. Would not stay again.

Having to pay a refundable deposit of £100 per room. Although I booked and paid for two twin rooms, the deposit was requested when we arrived. I paid the deposit for one of the rooms, one of my travelling companions for the other, in cash and each of us signed for the payment. But when we left, two of my companions needed to catch a train but were t allowed to have their deposit returned until someone had gone and checked both rooms at the same time. The delay meant that they had to catch a later train which was unfortunate. But the beds were very comfortable and the staff in the main were very good.

Tired hotel and thin walls
Hotel, on arrival seemed ok. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Nice touch with biscuits in room. Room was very dated and not brilliantly set out. Half of tv obscurred by wardrobe. Bathroom. Didnt use bath, again dated, sealant around bath base to floor very rough, felt like toilet seat was going to fall off everytime you sat on it. You can hear everything from other rooms, conversations word for word, not just noise. We went out for the evening and when we returned we couldn't get out door to open, like the lock was faulty, we had to get male receptionist to come and force it open for us. He said someone had said it needed fixing. We did eat at the hotel and the food was quite nice. The bar staff were very nice and friendly. There is no lift at the hotel so wouldnt recommend for people with mobility issues but after going up and down them to reception to try and sort door, it was pretty tiring for me. The hotel was really handy for visiting The Piece Hall but i would probably stay somewhere else if I visited the area again

Great location but awful room
Second visit for a concert, location right at the entrance to venue and town. Hotel rooms need urgent refurbishment. Bathroom awful , flooded and toilet in a position you could hardly sit on it. Room felt like a storage room with a tiny window and furniture was so dated. Bed was comfortable. Left as soon as possible.
