Firstly, the most important point: I would be very happy to stay here again. The location is superb for the museums and the Royal Albert Hall and conveniently situated for the Gloucester Road underground station for those that want to get into central London. We booked three rooms for two nights and the beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean and fresh. If you want good value for this part of London, you would be hard-pressed to do better.
That said, make your booking with your eyes open. Like many London hotels in this category/price bracket, it is showing its age. Cracked bathroom floor tiles, loose light fittings, interesting plumbing (slow drainage meant a shower lasting longer than 3 minutes could have resulted in a minor flood) and marked carpets all require some attention. However, I stress once again that it is perfectly comfortable and adequate.
If you have booked on a room only basis, make sure that you order any breakfasts you may require for your stay AS SOON AS YOU CHECK IN. Asking after this time will result in a much higher price being charged. There are limited alternative options locally before 9am.
The bar facilities etc are probably good, but they were closed throughout - only open Tuesday evening to Saturday! So, if you want hotel social facilities, check before you book.
The staff were excellent. Very engaging and friendly and keen to help where they can. Ultimately, it is the people that lift this hotel above the standard London offering.
