Chaloklum and Haad Mae Haad beaches are on the northwestern coast of Koh Phangan. Chaloklum Beach itself is 2.5 km long, with a small village and pier in the middle. Colorful, long-tail fishing boats moor along the immediate shoreline while Chinese-style wooden restaurants, villas and shophouses line the main street. The pier is one of Koh Phangan’s favorite fishing locations. The surrounding mountains and hills create shelter from the wind, creating perfect conditions for wakeboarding.
Mae Haad features several bungalow operations with a couple of resorts on the beachfront. The northern end of the beach has a sand bar connected to Koh Ma at low tide. Relaxed, quiet and atmospheric, Mae Haad’s character is the complete opposite to the brashness of Haad Rin on the opposite side of Koh Phangan.
Great restaurants in Haad Mae Haad and Chaloklum are mostly resort-owned venues, where you can dine in the sand with spectacular views of the Andaman Sea. Seafood restaurants dominate the neighborhoods' dining scene, though you can find a few specializing in Italian, Dutch and English cuisine.
