4/10 Fair

Nothing charming about this experience.
Stayed for a one night trip, expecting a luxury experience from a well known hotel chain, but was left very disappointed by the lack pf personality and charm as advertised, the cold service and tired hotel. The hotel room was small, with no amenities to speak of (not even a box of tissues!), despite stating that the room would be occupied by 2 persons, there was only one towel and bottle of water, the 'welcome' at the reception desk at both check in and check out was very cold, with no personality or even asking if we had a good stay! The sewage smell coming from the bathroom sink as well as hot water from the cold tap left us feeling very disappointed. Would have expected much better, from a hotel claiming to be 'exuding charm'.

Underwhelming for the price
Expensive hotel, nice decor and good location but room cold and heating/air conditioning not working, shower temperature limited so not really hot enough, no normal coffee (only decaffeinated), only one set of towels for two of us…

Nice stay
Nice room, a little worn but Hotel du Vin has always been a bit shabby chic. Lovely amenities in the bathroom, nice coffee and tea tray. The shower had virtually no water coming out of the shower head so had to take a “splash bath”-I guess because it was a top floor room

Unfriendly staff espcially the bar lady on Friday evening who closed the bar at 1045 as we arrived. So hot we couldn't sleep. It really put me off a brand that i loved

Great hotel but a little noisy
This was our second visit having had a brilliant stay previously. Rooms and bedding are extremely clean and comfortable. Food is excellent. Location is perfect for Winchester. The only really downside is the noise. The hotel is in a busy main road and previously we had a room at the back but this time we were in the road. We asked to move as it was noisy and they kindly moved is to a side room but it was still noisy and as well as the road, music from the restaurant below was playing until after 10pm and before 7am. We would stay again but would definitely request a quiet room in advance.

8/10 Very Good

The property itself is lovely, it has a beautiful courtyard (fro drinks/lunch) and is only a 2 minute walk to Winchester town centre. My main feedback would be on the issue of staff training. They don't look around and see if anyone would like drinks (they deliver to another table and rush off). You sometimes have to find people to assist you and they weren't short of staff. This happened at least 3-4 times. One breakfast time we went down at 10 am and it doesn't finish untill 11am but already they were clearing things away/not replenshing the breakfast buffet so the choice was limited and we had to ask for simple things like water glasses. For the price of the room I would expect much more proactive service. For that reason I don't think I'd stay here again.

Staff was extremely helpful, great location. Nice garden. Had to move rooms because AC didn’t work. Historic building has limitations, such as a very squeaky floor and no lift.

A Wonderful Stay
We had a truly fabulous two-night stay at the Hotel du Vin. Excellent and friendly staff provided wonderful service. On our first night we opted for the tasting menu, which was first class. That evening we were served by Hannah and the hotel’s sommelier, Evangelos, both of whom deserve a particular mention as they made the evening very special. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel and would definitely be willing to stay there again in the future.

Great staff and a really nice hotel. But...they have no or little aircon so summer days mean that the rooms are too hot and uncomfortable. A big shame as it ticks all the other boxes.

2/10 Poor

Having paid £300 for one night I was not expecting the property to be as run down as it was. Check-in was delayed by 2 hours, the shower was so weak I couldnt wash the shampoo out of my hair or the soap off my body, there was a bartender (tall, waistcoat, beard) who was extremely rude even though we had been waiting 2 hours for our room!!! The bed had two big dips in each side. All in all an extremely poor overall experience. Save your money and stay at the travelodge!
