Wonderful experience
We stayed in the KURI house. The house was spacious and comfortable with private open air bath, with all the necessary amenities. The public onsen was good. Dinner was delicious and the service was good. Strawberry picking was also a wonderful experience and we tasted different species of strawberries. The newly build bridge had an influence on the view but overall it didn’t affect the comfort of the stay.

Best part was the Onsen
Onsen itself was great! Even with the new highway construction hanging above, the property did a good job trying to conceal it. Room itself was rather small unfortunately, but it was ok. Food for dinner was great, fresh and enough. Breakfast was a delight. We got the western style breakfast and they give 600yen credit for each person to pick up bread at the lovely bakery just next door. After that you have the regular eggs salad and coffee at the Italian restaurant. Relaxing stay.

Terribly disappointed
We were looking forward to visiting this hotel, restaurants, and onsen. After a long train journey, we arrived to find a tiny tatami room (up to 4 people, but frankly 2 max could fit with luggage and chairs), without decoration, a small high window with view on the highway bridge and a plastic bathroom cubicle for almost CAN$180. When placing my booking for the room only, I asked to book a table at the Japanase restaurant. We found out at the restaurant that they had signed us off for the 13 course meal without even telling us anything when checking-in at the front desk! There was no way to cancel and we were forced feed 13 courses in <2h without even knowing the price. Next day we had a bill of $80 per person! Without drinks. The Japanese breakfast did not even include coffee and billed the ones at the cafe. I told them how I felt at checkout and they did not offer anything. They only said in perfect English (so no misunderstanding) that when you book a table, you book the half-board menu automatically even if you don't ask for it. The clerck told us he had lived several years in the US so that was bad excuse to give us as he knew that booking a table does not book your meals without even checking with people at checkin if they are ok with this (beside food allergies) and the price for it. That was just outrageous. The onsen is all open to construction site and worker views, some covering would be nice. Over all super disappointed, will not come back and will not recommend.

Design and food
The hotel concept of food and healing is very well executed. We enjoyed the onsen and the French style breakfast, they make croissants that are same as been in France, amazing!!!

The hotel is great, especially the hot spring. Just one minor dismerit is the construction site is too close to the hotel and onsen.
