I have been visiting Shanghai for months at a time since 2012. This hotel, which used to be a Hilton, can’t be beat. It is large, luxurious, has good restaurants, plus a little cafe/coffee area with pastries & sandwiches - an excellent gym, spa and pool. Everyone speaks enough English to communicate and are very friendly, and room views spectacular!
The location is excellent if you are interested in being in the Jing ‘An and French Concession area. Walking distance to all the top luxury stores & the temple - several other hotels with additional dining options - along with local restaurants.
First visit? I always recommend staying at the Hyatt, Peninsula or Waldorf on the Bund first, to get the amazing views and ultimate SH experience. But when you are done with that, you really want to spend a few days based in the French Concession where East meets West - think of it as the SoHo/Village of Shanghai. Lots of music, dining options, small galleries, soooo many coffee places and western food options including Italian, American and Mexican - and French. IAPM Mall also great!
For an evening out, go to Heyday Jazz Bar in the Concession for their 9:30pm first set after dinner. You will love it. And if you don’t already know, download Smart Shanghai app. Sort of the Yelp of SH. Look up restaurants, nightlife and more - in English.
Have fun! Kunlun Jing ‘An hotel is a great base for your time in The Concession - about 15 min DiDi (Uber) ride from The Bund - due west.
