Parking is right out front. Some short hikes nearby but you probably need a car to get to longer hikes. Cute little bars/ dining areas one about a 25 min walk and the other right around the corner. Think this hostel is more popular in winter for skiing but room was great and kitchen and shared spaces were cute and homey.

To be fair, I was the only person there so hard to judge. Can imagine it would be noisy if others were coming and going. Simple but nice accommodation. Clean and tidy.

We had a fabulous time. Owner was fantastic and Frankie the dog, so sweet and gentle. We had a small unit with a airing room under the stairs. Everything was clean and user friendly. Gas fire so we were warm and snug. Electric blankets too 😊 Close to the junction.

Close to everything, clean, modern and warm
Had such an amazing weekend in Ohakune. Rimu park is perfectly situated close to everything. The apartment was clean, modern and the gas fire was ready waiting for us. Couldn't have asked for more. We will definitely be back again.

‘Choice’ one bedroom apartment, modern, warm, clean, perfect for us - 2 adults and tween. Awesome views of mt Ruapehu from around town and car park entrance at back. Loved our stay, weather was perfect, easy drive to Turoa in 2 wheel drive, great day of snow boarding 😊

Nice warm rooms, handy location, friendly staff
Good clean kitchen facilites. Our only problem was we booked through expedia, and there was no mention on our booking that bedding and towels weren't supplied with the room! fortunately we had blankets with us, and we purchased towels to use from the supermarket. Very important to have this on the booking details on the website though. Other than that, would book this place again

Good location for exploring Tongariro National Par
We stayed in the converted rail car rooms, and it was a real treat. You are given the massive space of a historic rail car, including bathroom facilities, a small kitchen and large living space. Full kitchen facilities are available in the main building. If you expect everything to be perfectly clean and modern, look elsewhere - everything is slightly dated and rustic looking. If that doesn't bother you, I recommend this place, this room in particular, it's one of a kind. Views look straight out into a forested area, and the area includes views of the mountains of Tongariro National Park.

dusty!!!!
Unfortunately our little cabin was very dusty, quite thick dust and cob webs on the wooden panels lining the walls. Also bathroom floor especially behind the door had alot of dirt. Worst was finding a big bed bug crawling on hubby's back at 3am , after having feasted on me. Managers were lovely and helpful and immediately attended to the bed bug incident. But was very disappointing that place was so dusty!!! On the upside, it was warm and has nice spa pool.

Affordable, comfortable and clean
We spent two nights in one of their one bedroom apartments on our recent skiing trip at Turoa Ski field. Overall, room is clean, kitchen is decent size with all the necessary kitchenwares, mattress is comfy, bathroom is sizeable with a standing/cubicle shower and water pressure is super strong, which is rarely for a mid range accommodation. The shower has endless supply of hot water through the on demand propane heating system. Room was well heated as there are two heating panels, one in living area and the other in bedroom. The host was friendly and very accommodating, allowing us to leave baggages in storage after check out. The lodge is located very close to the access road to Turoa ski field and there are several eateries within walking distance and it's about 5 minutes drive to town centre where all the essentials are. It's away from the main road and traffic noise, so it's a plus. Our only problem was the room noise. The apartment doesn't seem to have any sound proof system in place. There is another unit on the first level and we occupied the ground floor unit and we could every single movements of the occupants in the upper unit. The nights we stayed there were a group of youth staying in the upper unit and there were loud music, noisy chats and activities late into the night. Even though they were nice and lowered the music when we told them we couldn't sleep with the noise, but we could still hear every single movement, which was very annoying.

New apartments are great
Two bedroom apartment is modern, cosy and clean. Beds are a little firm but really that's the only thing I can say that's not entirely positive. Great location at Ohakune Junction - 3 mins walk to the Powder Keg for dinner. Ace!

Skiing holiday
Very clean and tidy with e erything you need / we were in an apartment. The wifi while free was weak so not always useful, and the pillows need work - there's not much support. However we would totally go back, the management are friendly and accomodating, great location and lovely atmosphere

We stayed in the railway waggon, which was spaceous and well equipped. The double bed was comfortable, the single beds not so. It has a surprisingly good shower.

Family friendly, quirky and fun!
On a roadie this weekend from Auckland to the Ohakea Air Force Tattoo, we needed a stop-over to break an otherwise lengthy haul on a Friday night. The prospect of staying in a re-fitted railway carriage was enticing, and we weren't disappointed! Plenty of family room in the living area to spread out, and the carriage was fully self-contained with kitchenette and bathroom/toilet. The sleeping "chambers" consisted of a bunk area (sleeps two), which led through a door to a little master bedroom (double bed), however there were also two ample sofa-beds in the living room. We arrived quite late at night, however our hosts were genuinely warm, welcoming people for whom nothing was a problem. Staying in the carriage felt just like being on a real train heading somewhere through the night, so it was a bit of a shame to wake in the morning to our car parked outside (grin!). Party of two adults and one tween, and we all agreed this is the most fun place we've stayed in ages. Planning to return for a longer stay with the rest of the family in the Winter.
