8/10 Very Good

We had a great stay at Hotel La Omaja! The staff were very helpful and friendly. There is a beautiful view of the lake and the volcanoes. The rooms were lovely with AC, fans and hot water. It was a little difficult to access as the final stretch is all dirt roads and the driveway is very steep. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again!

Omaja was excellent. We would definitely stay there again. It’s a family run business, and Peter and Marianne made us feel right at home. The food was delicious, and the drinks were cold. They cater for vegans and vegetarians as well. They get their vegetables from the kitchen garden, so it was very fresh. The view from the pool was incredible. You have a clear view of the sunset, the volcanoe, and we saw monkeys in the trees! The air con is the rooms is a real plus.

Amazing pool view and friendly staff
Hosts were wonderful and made us feel at home, as well as showing us their town of Merida and the island as we got transport to a few places. Food was good and affordable at the hotel, and the view from the pool can't be beat!!

Hotel California
Pool area lovely but small. Not enough loungers and very uncomfortable as no cushions. Staff friendly but could do more to organize excursions to be more efficient and cheaper. Everything you do costs $20-30 for transport so if you are alone with no car, it’s expensive and you feel trapped as hotel location is remote - but is perfect to hike Maderas volcano although hotel guide was awful. So far ahead of us he could hear us calling! And wouldn’t take us to lagoon even tho we had lots of time. Dinners were hit and miss with few options and I wasn’t able ever to get a ride anywhere after 4pm so never got to eat anywhere else on the island! AC in room was loud and not very effective.

Hotel with best sunsets
We stayed in Ometepe island for 2 nights and chose la Omaja hotel. This hotel has a stunning pool that is located that way so you can enjoy a view on a volcano with absolutely beautiful sunsets Stuff of the hotel was very nice and helpful. We were traveling with a toddler and even though there is no kids menu stuff was always helpful to prepare a meal for a baby such as rice with beans or corn, bread toasts and so on. Hotel has bar/restaurant and the food is simple but very very tasty, they do bread right in the hotel and it is very good as well. Food selection can offer international dishes and local dishes as well, menu also had vegetarian options. Dinner had different options every day which was nice. We had a rental car so traveled everywhere on our own but if you travel without it the hotel can help you arrange transportation on the island and offers some tours and excursions. I would highly recommend this hotel as a perfect stop while visiting Ometepe island.

Beautiful hotel but very secluded
I stayed here with two friends while vacationing around Nicaragua. The pool was smaller than expected but still lovely boasting beautiful views of the lake. It is very close to the waterfall hike which was convenient. The hike is 3km but much more gruelling than expected. We walked but there is an option to rent horses. The hotel is very secluded from any type of restaurant or nightlife, although the hotel dining options were pretty good. There is also a restaurant down the road where we had dinner twice and it was so tasty. Authentic nica food and amazing wood oven pizza that I'd definitely recommend. Water pressure in the shower was pretty non existent and the power went out one night which meant no a/c which sucked but overall a nice stay if you want to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of travelling!!!!

Hidden gem on Omatepe island
Getting to Hotel Omaja is a taxi ride of a little over an hour, but it is well worth it. It is up high on a bluff, with a view of the volcano Concepcion and the water. The rooms are little independent casitas that are simple and beautiful. The staff are very engaging and helpful. From the hotel you can arrange activities such as kayaking, a beach day or riding scooters. The essence of the place, though, is really relaxation, whether in a hammock or poolside.

Worth the Drive
Getting there was an adventure sight-seeing tour. We had arrived at the other end of the island, so it took over an hour to get to La Omaja. The last few kms are dirt and, in some areas, not in the best of shape. It is worth the trip. The property is situated to allow beautiful views of the lake and Volcan Conception. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is inexpensive and yummy. If you are married to your phone/I-pad you might have an issue with only having internet service in the main building, but we were fine with that. Loved the infinity pool!

Ometepe
Great place to see all of the island. You are on a dirt road, but you get to see and visit the locals. Best place to stay on the island. Each guest has their own casita. The food is good at their resturant, although the kitchen staff could use a little more traning, food service takes NICA time!

Excellent accommodation; pretty rustic location
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and recommend to others! I took advantage of several activities near the hotel that the staff was happy to organize: hiking to the waterfall, kayaking in an absolutely beautiful river, and horseback riding. Lovely dining room overlooks infinity pool with beautiful views.

really nice place, considering that is really outside of the road, wi-fi only at the reception/restaurant. staff very friendly and committed, the signs on the main road should be more clear, we arrived at night and we had difficulties to find the place, the Hotel phone nr in Expedia is not correct. Overall positive experience

Unparalleled view off the well trodden Ometepe
The staff was super helpful and from start to finish and didn’t have any of the hassle toy sometimes get at smaller places off the beaten path. We rented a motorcycle the second day and it was amazing, none of the trouble that you read about in the other reviews. Horacio was particularly helpful in getting us set up with excursions and taxi rides. It is a bit of a hike from the ferry and you go over some unpaved road so know what you’re getting yourself into. The view is unreal good and there food was certainly more tasty than it needed to be.

Beautiful spot on Ometepe
The beauty of Hotel Omaja is the setting near the Maderas Volcano with a nice pool overlooking the lake and a great view of Concepcion Volcano. The only real downside is the remoteness of the location if you are hoping to visit other attractions on the island. The roads are rough and the distances too far to walk so you'll either need to rent something, pay for a taxi, or wait for infrequent buses. The restaurant is good, the AC and hot water worked, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Peaceful
Have to say that after we left a paved road, I wasn't sure where I would end. (Single woman!) Delightful place with a great staff. Not the place if you want to be in the middle of anything but if you want peace and relaxation~this is absolutely it. On a hill with a wonderful view of the lake and volcanoes. Without a car, you had to depend on taxis but they were readily available. Try it, you will like it!!

Hidden gem with beautiful views
Beautiful secluded little spot. The infinity pool was unreal with the stunning views of the volcano. The staff were unreal! Such hard workers, super friendly and always there to help. The hotel was very accommodating with any outside excursions as well. There were a lot of bugs around, but that is to be expected in Nicaragua! We loved it here and will definitely be back! Thank you to all the staff of La Omaja for being so amazing :)

Great place in the middle of the forest and facing the lake. the only drawback is that you have to travel about an hour from Myogalpa, where the ferry drops you. But I don't think u'll find anything like this closer to the ferry

Oasis at the end of the line
Every room is a private casita on lush grounds with awesome views of Lake Nicaragua. Staff is warm and friendly. Be aware that the hotel is an hour plus away from where the ferry drops you. It is cheaper to arrange shuttle on mainland side and there are no ATMs within 35 minutes. I would come back though there are also other options nearby so no stress just showing up.
