My one night stay was fine. Like most of the recent reviews I read, the room was clean and the staff was polite and helpful. My bed was comfortable and all the surfaces I came in contact with were clean -sheets, sink, toilet, tub, desk, towels.
That said, there are some things people might like to know. This is a very old hotel and it doesn't seem to have ever been remodeled to any quality standard in the last 50 + years. Most furnishings are quite shabby. The pictures make it look in better shape than it is. There are no elevators. It still uses door keys. There was no deadbolt on my door. There was a chain.
Of course, I only know about the room I stayed in.
The hotel is old enough to have had transoms. The glass now replaced with a board and the AC vent. The very cool vintage mechanism to operate the transomes were still there!
The lighting was dim in my room, which was fine by me. The night before I stayed in a place where there was no dim lighting option. Also, you can't adjust the AC. The temperature was fine for me. Which means many people will find it too warm.
I stayed here because I missed my flight. I chose this in order to explore the historic part of town. Be aware half the buildings are empty. And there are mostly fairly high end restaurants and bars/clubs in the area. It seemed deserted until people started coming out for the evening. It was Saturday night. I wondered if I should be concerned about safety. But it was fine.
