Quiet, comfortable sleep after two days of cycling. Being close to Senkoji Park is a bonus. Plenty of nearby restaurants and friendly staff made my stay even more relaxing.

A nice hotel with very helpful staff. Close to ferry and about 10 minutes walk to train station. Bicycle parking in hotel lobby is great. Rooms are a bit too small, even for Japan. All in all a nice hotel, I’d stay here again.

Location is super. Receptionist made big effort to communicate in English. The room was very clean and everything was functioning. Only point on the negative side was the narrowness of the room.

The location is a bit far from the train station, it took me around 20mins to get to the hotel from the station. I was offered a room with city view although majority of the rooms have a sea view. And very unfortunately the room got a lasting vomit smell that kept me awake the whole night....

Clean and quiet
We needed a hotel for an overnight stay travelling from Hiroshima towards Tokyo. The hotel was perfectly comfortable and clean and suited our needs. We were a bit disappointed that we spent an additional 1800 Yen on parking as the hotel car park was full.

We stayed one night in Imabari before completing the Shimanami Kaido and I researched transporting luggage between Imabari and Onomichi (I lived in Imabari for 2 years so am familiar with the area) before we left and the information all suggested that we could get luggage transferred from our hotel in Imabari to a hotel on the transfer list in Onomichi even without a booking. However at our hotel in Imabari (with no English speaking staff; I had to rely on my limited Japanese) we tried to arrange for our luggage to be transported to our next hotel (in Kurashiki, one hour north of Onomichi) but despite my previous research, we were informed that we could not get it delivered on the one-day service to Kurashiki, and it could ONLY be transferred to Onomichi, and ONLY to a hotel on their list. As we didn't have a booking in Onomichi we tried unsuccessfully to get the staff to arrange an alternative for us. While the lady at the front desk went out of her way to help us, this couldn't be arranged and we booked the Royal Hotel just to get our luggage delivered. We didn't end up staying here, but from what we saw from the reception, it is very dated and has a smoking room by the front entrance. For budget travellers only! I give this advice to anyone wanting to arrange hotels in Imabari/Onomichi, who want to do the bike ride and get luggage transferred...

A nice, basic, clean and comfortable room overlooking the river in the lovely town of Onamichi. I would stay here again. Very good value.

Good location, clean but we got a smoking room
Great location - 12 minute walk to the train station. Small room but had all the comforts we needed and was clean and good price. Only downside was that it was a smoking room and smelled like smoke. We didn't ask to change the room and just put up with the smoke smell for 2 nights.

Very bad value for money !
the room was exceptionally small ! parking space were so limited that I was asked to park in a public car park nearby. Even though I was subsidised with JPY700 for parking, I still had to pay the rest of the JPY1,800 (total charge being JPY2,500), which was indeed very costly in consideration of the rather rural area of Onomichi !

Good location
Hotel is a little old but is in a good location if you are wanting to do the shimanam kaido cycle track. The sleepy little town has some great ramen joints

Smoking Issues.
I had a non smoking room but had 2 unpleasant nights with heavy smell of cigarette smoke drifting into my room. When I complained to reception I was informed that the floor above was for smokers and the fumes/smell obviously came down into my room somehow. Probably a ventilation issue? Smokers are still being cosseted in Japan. Prospective guests should be aware of being in close proximity to smoking rooms.

Climbing the steep stairs to the "observatory" was priceless. Meandering through old homes perched on hill slope amidst bouldery rock walls and sculptures

Basic Accomodation Near Start of Shimanami Kaido
Clean rooms with rock solid beds in a hotel a little past it's prime. Right on the waterfront with decent views of the waterway. Half a mile from the ferry start of the cycling route.

Good location and nice staff - small room
The location was good and the staff very friendly. The room was clean. It was however very small, especially for two people, with no place to open a suitcase.

Pleasant stay in nice city
Excellent view from room on the mountain side of hotel. Beautiful town with friendly staff and people in town. Excellent Temple walk and fantastic biking down to the islands south heading to Maibara. Room was adequate and, as always in Japan, clean and stocked with the usual amenities. This is a good place for the price and I will be coming back to complete the entire bicycle route. PS I left my camera on the counter before heading out for a walk and before I realized it a hotel employee tracked me down and returned it. Nice.

I stayed two nights, it was quite a bit away from the station and the rental shop, about 10 min walk. But its a good location to the temple. I couldnt booked a non smoking room so it has the smell of cigrattes which was not good.
