2/10 Poor

SC
Eco does not mean lack of cleanliness and thoughtfulness. It has taken me a long time to review this property as I rather not complain about personal experiences. But as I look at the scars from insect bites on my arms, I feel others need to be aware. The hotel customer service is poor. There is a strong mentality of ‘not my job’ among the staff. Except for the room where the owner stays, rooms have doors that do not lock, insect nests by the doors, flees in beds and generally not very clean. I also got food poisoning from a tour arranged by the hotel which makes me think they do not qualify their vendors yet charge commission for arranging. I stayed here for the diving place which has a very good reputation but could not wait to leave. The positives were the excellent chef and a new receptionist who was trying her best with very little help from the management.

The staff was wonderful. Trasnportation to and from the airport was excelent and on time. When we arrived there were some issues woth our room which was addressed quickly. The resort overall is a beautiful paradise. The food was amazing. We also did the island tour which was amazing. Our tour guides were awesome and so helpful. I honestly could not ask for more.

Such a beautiful place Eat, Sleep, Relax, Kayaking and one of the best diving in the world. So much to do on the Islands that you need minimum 1 week or maybe more. Special thanks to Pam, the restaurant manager for taking care of us. She is such a nice lady to talk to and beautiful Amber for hanging out with us. Gladys and Colin

Amazing location with the most beautiful reef I’ve seen so far. Saw a large variety of fish and a very massive turtle. Asma was lovely and a great host, answered all my questions before I knew I had them! Only thing I would say is the set menu can be quite limiting, although the dishes were lovely and local, some more choice would have been preferred but overall wonderful - chefs did a great job!!

This place is bliss. My wife and I spent five nights in the Treetop room and I can't imagine a more relaxing destination. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly and attentive. The reef out front is excellent for snorkeling, and the whole place is just easy. Because of its island location there are no people walking around who are not guests, and nobody on the beach selling anything. In fact, only a handful of guests at any time on the beautiful beach. The rooms are simple and clean with shaded balconies. Air conditioning would be nice, but power is limited to solar, so, not yet. Fans are provided. In our room, which I recommend, it was set back a little, still with ocean views, but backed into the cliff with more trees in front, the monkeys visited regularly which was very entertaining. They observed us with the same interest as we did them from our balcony and our bathroom window overlooking the rocks and trees, with mother's carrying their infants in a way that looked like they were showing off. We just came off an 8 day dive liveaboard, so we chose not to dive, but all the dive infrastructure is there for your use, and there are many great sites nearby. I highly recommend Sangat Island Dive Resort!

Be prepared for “roughing it” to a degree. No a/c, cold water shower, but magical surroundings in spectacular setting, All meals provided. Happy atmosphere and happy guests there to experience the raw beauty. Monkeys in the trees add something extra to enjoy

Beautiful serene place to call home for a few days. We went diving and all of the shipwrecks were amazing. We had one “ hiccup” with the resort but Kat made everything right.

Private paradise. Will be back!!
Amazing experience!! So happy to have found this hotel. Coron City is very crowded and chaotic, this hotel is by itself on its own island about 45 min boat ride from Coron City. So it really is a peaceful, private beach, get away from everything type place. Don’t think you’re going to be bouncing back and forth to night life or shopping in Coron, this is a once your on the island we never left except for all our tours and diving. Bonus is, it’s a dive shop and really close to all the ship wreck dives. Scheduled a private beach hopping tour through the hotel which was amazing, will take you to any beach you want. Had kayaks, paddle board, jet skis available for rent. Nice little bar everyone hangs out at before and after dinner. Meal package is a little pricy for Philippines standards but overall completely worth it. No A/C on the island, cools down at night and had fans in the bungalows, but if you must have A/C find another place. Showers are warm at best, if you need a hot shower, fine another place. But overall it’s a private paradise island with cute little bungalows, beautiful views and more stars than you’ve ever seen!!

Shipwreck Diving the Highlight at Sangat
Sangat Dive Resort was a very relaxing and beautiful place to stay. The highlight of the stay was scuba diving on one of the nearby shipwrecks. It’s worth nothing that I ther areas of the Philippines has more colorful coral with more sea life, but the wrecks give Sangat a uniqueness. The additional amenities are not cheap - the dives, drinks and daily food charge all add up really quickly. The service from the staff is outstanding and the resort is set up so it’s really easy to get to know other guests on the island (if you want to meet other people that is). There is no air conditioner, but they do provide small fans which keep the room cool enough to sleep, however the humitidity makes the bed stay damp. Not ideal and not luxurious, but this is a great getaway for those looking to detach from work/stress.

Friendliest staffs.
We stayed at Sangat for 4 nights, 3 days. Honestly, it was the longest 4 nights in my life. My kids were miserable with the mosquito bites. TONS of bites. The bug spray we brought didn’t help at all. The tours were expensive although the tour guide Warren was super nice. The food were so so. We saw a rat in our room on our 2nd day. Crazy. But the staffs were nice, accomodating and the friendliest I’ve met. A night or so is enough. With the bugs and no aircon, I woke up at 3 AM on the 3rd day ready to pack up and leave

Excellent place to unwind. Good family feel at this small resort. The only downside is perhaps the food preparation or water is not completely up to standards, as we may have caught some bacteria from the resort...

Spectacular
Sangat was an amazing vacation! This is eco-tourism at its finest. The bungalows were comfortable even without air conditioning and hot water. I thought I would have some difficulty with the lack of a warm shower but when in the sun all day, not an issue at all. For buffet style, the food was amazing. They did a great job of serving tons of veggie and fruit dishes which I really liked. Friends of ours are gluten free and were able to avail of everything - the chef made a concerted effort to have most dishes as gluten free. The beach there is spectacular. I've learned that in the Philippines, if there is a pool, the beach isn't much but if no pool, beach is fantastic. This is true with Sangat. We could snorkel right off the beach and see lots of sea life. The island hopping trips were excellent. A very relaxing and fun excursion....highly recommended!

Paradise up close and friendly
The people and the sights are top notch. The experience is surreal in terms of the beauty of the famed Palawan islands. Remember, this is an eco-resort, so you won't have AC or hot water, just electric fans and cool water. But you'll have some satisfaction of knowing you're not gutting one of the planet's most beautiful environments. Frankly, AC becomes irrelevant in the tropics, because you have to learn to spend most of your time in hot and muggy conditions regardless. And who needs a hot shower in the tropics? Stunning views of the hillside and beach. Easy to kayak and snorkel on the premises. Great day trip options for diving and sight-seeing.

6/10 Good

Could and should do so much better
Pros: - Super friendly and attentive staff - this is the hotel's best asset! - Beautiful location with great reef and shipwreck dives within easy reach - Various Water based activities available Cons: Keep in mind that bungalow rates are over USD 200+ per night, which is not cheap, especially in the Philippines. - Bungalows are rustic - which is fine- but bathrooms need improvement. At 200+ USD/night one could expect at least lukewarm water in the shower(it's not difficult to setup a solar powered tank to keep the water warm) - Slight gaps in the flooring of the bungalows mean that mosquitoes can get through and this renders the mosquito nets over bed and on windows completely useless - Guests must pay for use for kayaks (hourly rent) and snorkeling equipment (we expected it to be free of charge considering the cost of the bungalow) - Food served is of average quality and taste on most days unfortunately. - Construction work going on both sides of our bungalow - guest should be made aware of this before booking so they can make an more informed decision. Verdict: Unlikely to stay at Sangat Island during my next Palawan/Coron visit. This is not a reflection on the staff, which has been wonderful but rather on the value proposition of the hotel. A fair value for this bungalow should be around USD 120. Either improve amenities or drop the price. Sangat Island is an OK resort, worthy of 2.5/3 stars but not the top end ranking it currently holds.
