The hotel is fine. Hot water, AC, cable with premium channels, good wifi, clean. I do agree with other reviewers that breakfast should be included for the price. The restaurant is a buffet style diner that also serves local clientele. Prices seem fair. The main issue is the neighborhood. I did not give much credence to previous reviewers' observations of the neighborhood because, in my experience, tourist tend to be a bit dramatic. No so in this case! The neighborhood literally looks like a war zone. There are 'bombed out' buildings, trash, debris, and feces in the streets, homeless people sleeping outside the hotel, and major drainage problem. Since 2011, I have amassed over 3 years of experience living and traveling in Central America and Colón is the first place that I can honestly say I felt uncomfortable walking in the streets. The government supposedly has a plan to renew the city, so stay tuned. Now, it is not the hotel staff's fault that Colón is in the shape that it is, and if you need to come here, the hotel is nice, but prepare yourself mentally and bring some cab money.
