Cozy B&B near attractions
Our family of 4 stayed 1 night at this B&B. It was very charming and cozy. The owner of the inn was very friendly and cooked an awesome breakfast. It was easy to miss the inn because it was surrounded by farms but the interior of the house provided great atmosphere.

Needs lots of TLC
I'm a world traveler, therefore I'm used to all; but this B&B is nothing as described. Our room was simply filthy! The carpet was not cleaned at all!. The bed so squeaky. Breakfast took over an hr wait and was served cold.scrambled eggs and toast!! ?? We almost left to eat at the diner across the street. From the moment we pulled up in the driveway we wanted to turn around. The plants, trees all overgrown! I do not recommend this hotel. Be aware that this property is off a MAIN highway so you will hear the trucks passing!

Comfortable and good deal for price
Comfortable and clean; could use some updates and a coat of paint; pleasant host; good breakfast; highway noise at night.

Mediocre
The property is in need of upkeep. The path to the door was overgrown with plants making it hard to walk, the front door was stuck shut upon our arrival and we had to enter through the side porch. The side porch hadn't been used in a long time and we had to walk through a couple of cob webs. The room is functional and clean but a little dark. But we felt as though we were imposing on our host. Breakfast was decent, but we had to ask for several things (like utensils, cream and sugar). It was advertised that breakfast is always served by candlelight - didn't happen. Functional accommodation, but there are better places for the money.

From Victorian and great reviews to second handed
I chose this B&B because of the pictures and high review on the webpage. However we arrived to find that it was under new ownership for 1 year. The Victorian furniture and décor in lobby and dining room had been replaced with very well used second handed furniture. The only thing that looked the same was the bedroom. The outside and inside was very run down. Photos on web need to be updated so this does not deceive people. I would not stay here again.

Rented the room for a couple of days to relax and watch a show in Lancaster at sight and sound theater. Very convenient location, and great breakfast and coffee. However I would recommend to Gene, or host to please look into updating the beds, not very comfortable. Other than that it was a fun weekend.

PA Amish Country Gem
Pleased to find a bed and breakfast centrally located to many of the Route 30 attractions east of Lancaster, in a quiet place just outside the more touristy traffic just a mile to the west! Excellent breakfast.

Unprecedented Accommodations
Did not stay even though I forfeited one nights charge. In appearance, the place looked like it should be condemned. The grounds were unkept during my visit, the proprietor met me at the door with his dog (which poohed on the carpeting while I was waiting for the proprietor to get me a list of policies for guests) and the interior had an musty odor which was unacceptable. I was offered an upgrade to a room with a jacuzzi but by this time I had seen enough of the establishment to send my way to seek other accommodations. I am still buzzed off at the fee which was charged since this was my first visit to the establishment.

Lovely hosts' and great location!
Gene and his lovely wife are wonderful hosts'! They truly treat you as a friend or even family member. The house is well set up, with the 1st floor very cozy and welcoming. The rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable, although very 'squeaky'! The house is VERY old - chronologically - so it is not surprising that the floors and doors squeak. I would hate to be a teenager trying to sneak in after a late night!! HA HA. Keeping in mind this is Lancaster area, and the need for 'the outside world' is not always desired, the room does not have a TV or radio, but there is one in the living room. Also the bathroom, at least in the Sonata & Allegro rooms, were essentially converted closets. The shower is tight, but there certainly is plenty of hot water...oh, and the towels were SUPER soft!! Finally, the 'family style' breakfast was both delicious and VERY filling.

Very nice room, great Breakfast. Was nice that breakfast was around 8 AM. Others are at 9 which is late for doing things. Would have liked TV in room since if there are multiple guests it is hard to choose a channel to everyone's liking.

First time at a b&b
First time at a b&b. The Candlelight Inn exceeded our expectations. The room was beautiful, very large, clean, and quiet. Exactly what my wife and I were hoping for. Gene was friendly and helpful, recommending a great place for dinner. We look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Lancaster.

Great b&b - loved the history and the area
We enjoyed our stay. The building is neat to see, the rooms are great, breakfast was good. The only challenge was that the rooms we were staying in, the Madrigal Suite, had the bathroom inside the room with a day bed (twin beds). Wasn't very convenient for us to use the bathroom when our children were sleeping it that same room. Recommend coming up with a plan to change that.

Super cute, but...
This was OK. It was super cute and quaint. There is a cute pooch that lives on the premises. I'm not a dog person (like another reviewer stated) and was a little wary of having breakfast in a place where a dog runs around a business establishment. Room was nice and comfortable. Our room had a porch and a private bathroom. Great location. House smelled a little stale, which made me question the cleanliness. Not sure if I'll stay here again.

in a nice area--close to shops and restaurants
The area is convenient to lots of shops, restaurants, sights to see. It is on a busy highway, but farmland is all around. The room was average size, but the bathroom, especially the shower was very small. Food was good--home made and food came from local Amish markets, but there was not an abundance of it. The man of the house was doing most of it himself due to lack of staff for that weekend. Bed was very comfortable. There were other visitors there, but we only saw them at breakfast.

25th Annniversary trip
My husband and I stayed at the Inn as we were attending a concert in Lancaster. The Inn is lovely (and so is the owner's dog...what a mush!). The only problem I was able to see was the lock on the front door--very tricky. Other than that, the room was comfortable, the breakfast delicious and the owner very personable!

Great place to stay
I stayed at the Candlelight for a week for a conference up the street, and had a very pleasant stay. The innkeepers, Gene and Gail, are great and very accommodating. The breakfasts are plentiful and tasty. Gene and Gail bought the place about 6 months ago and have been working on freshening up the place, and I think most will enjoy it. I stayed in both the Nocturne and the Fantasia rooms. Fantasia is a large and rather quirky room in the former attic space, looking to have been built out or remodeled relatively recently. Kids would love the odd nooks, and many will enjoy the Jacuzzi tub. The Nocturne is smaller, but has a nice balcony to it that I enjoyed.
