Expensive, given it's level of quality
Extremely noisy Mac wine outside my window. TV Chanels were mostly scrambled - not the hotels fault. It's over-priced for its quality, but then anything in Liberia used by overseas visitors will prove to be so. A similar hotel in the US would struggle to charge $75.

The property is excellent though street children come at the entrance ti beg for money and can be violent. Management needs to improve its security.

Pleasant, but expensive compared to other countrie
I've stayed at the Murex several times before so I knew anat to expect. First night my bathroom didn't smell fresh at all.. distinct smell of urine... but that was cleaned on request. Considering we are talking about Liberia, it's a good experience. Obviously it's way more expensive than a similar hotel elsewhere, so I assume that will change when there are more visitors to Liberia (?)

For Monrovia, a good choice.
For Monrovia, this is a good hotel choice. Internet and TV proved to be intermittent, however, the management were quick to attempt to get things online again. The A.C. is welcome after a long day out in the heat.

Decent facility
I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. It’s well maintained with a homely feel. Staff are available to sort out any issues quite quickly. Internet is very weak in the rooms. It can benefit from a little refurbishment

For Monrovia, $80 per night for a standard room with working AC, hot water, friendly staff, and breakfast included is a good deal. Central location as well, easy walking distance to markets and restaurants.

Try to avoid
I do not write reviews. And this is my 3rd time staying at Murex - location and price (relative) is good for Monrovia. But the place keeps falling apart. They put me in a cheaper category room than I had booked, and when I kindly told them this, they would not move me. The shower leaked - but it is mainly the service. To be fair, it is very person specific - some of the staff are lovely, but a couple are so rude (my asking for another towel to dry hands was taken as an offense). The light was horrible, and the cleaning lady intentioanlly turned around the "clean up room/do not disturb" sign just in order to avoid cleaning...

The Mystery of the Towels
Murex Plaza sits on the main road that runs into the city center of Monrovia. After years of visiting Liberia and living rough, the appearance of reasonable hotels is a definite bonus. However, the price is steep at $135 a night. The hotel is clean and basic. The AC worked, which is essential. My mattress was great - a consistently good night’s sleep. Unfortunately, we’ll remember this place for the mysterious saga of our towels. On arrival we had two bath towels and two hand towels. Second day, only one fresh bath towel - phoned reception for the replacement second. Third day, the same - only one towel left, one disappeared. Fourth day, no towels at all… phoned reception again. Front desk staff, however, were efficient and friendly.

Get updated rooms.
We began in room 401 and the air conditioner did not work well and it had an old bathroom. The rest of the room was good. When we complained about the air conditioner they moved us to room 201. It had an air conditioner that worked and the bathroom had been remodeled. It was large, with 2 queen beds, desk, dresser, closet for clothes, extra chairs, etc. They made good use of the room. The breakfast was fine, with eggs the way you want them, variety of juices, breakfast breads and cakes, and a plate of fresh fruit. We ate dinner there one night and the price was good and the food was very good. Whenever we had a complaint they helped us. The parking is limited. There is a salon inside the same building. There is a lift. It is not grand, but if you have the right room, it is comfortable. They left the air on all day when we were gone so we didn't have to start over again to cool the room. They have limited towels and only clean if you ask. When they washed out towels it was hard getting them back again, but would stay there again in the same room.

Great Hotel in Monrovia
The stay was excellent - the room was huge, well appointed, and clean. Desk staff were helpful and polite, tracking down my reservation and allowing an early check-in. It is definitely a place to get away a bit from Monrovia, and thus expat heavy, but seemed reasonable for the price. Wifi, power, and hot water were 24-7, and much appreciated.
