Worst hotel of the trip. Very outdated and badly in need of repairs. Carpets worn, ripped, curled. Walls dirty, patchy, with holes. Dark and dingy. Not welcoming. Could not eat at restaurant unless pre-booked, and no others nearby. Microwave packet food was only option. One night was too long for this dump.

Onsen: excellent; water often "cold" (40C)
Monkeys, deer, nature all around.
Staff VERY nice, and accommodating.
Fire place.
Dinner and breakfast amazing, but expensive (we paid as much as for accomodation). Next time we will have half-board less often: too much food.Staff very friendly.
A very nice experince.

It was a very run down aged hotel. Extremely over priced - perhaps a 1 star hotel. I extremely do no recommend staying here

Recommended for location, regional food
This hotel's best factor is its location, deep inside the Nikko National Park. Great bus access to go hiking and see the best waterfalls ever. The little town is a hot spring town, which is great, although there is not much besides the hot springs.
The hotel room itself was fine and much more spacious than a typical Japanese hotel room. Bed was a little stiff.
There is a private semi-outdoor hot spring you can rent for JPY2,500 for 45 minutes, which is great for couples. The private hot spring is rather basic for Japanese standards, but still nice.
Service was great. Staff is friendly and one guy gave us good tips on what to see and eat. The food was normal good. Basic breakfast buffet is always welcome, and the dinner included unique regional dishes.

We stayed at okunikko konishi hotel on our second night in Nikko, out of four night winter trip.
I found this hotel's facilities very old, and uncomfortably so, dark and it made me doubt of hotel's cleanliness.
The room was spacious. This is probably the point why I booked it.
Toilet seat cover had a paper saying it was sterilized but I could smell pee in the toilet room before using it, just smell but it was uncomfortable. The shared toilet near the lobby was better. My husband told me that he saw brownish water in the sink faucet come out in the beginning before it cleared. We think it's a sign of lack of use.
We didn't use the room's private shower as we were told the water was weak and it was not onsen water. Shared bath was a really bad experience for me, I slipped on the tile almost fell in the inside bath. Outside I slipped on thin ice and almost fell if not for gripping on the steel bar. On top of that, water was lukewarm in both baths.
The saving point was the staff were at least nice.
I will not book this place again.

Old hotel but five star service!
Hotel need to be renovated or touch up. Old, not well maintained and strange smell. However, staff provided 5 stars Services. You will be well taking care of. They even use an Nissan SUV to send my family with 3 children to bus station. Because of the exceptional services provided, I still rated them with 4 stars. But, please think of slight renovation of all the rooms and corridors. And also provide nice aroma and bathing soap and hair shampoo for the room’s bathroom. Remember appearance, hygiene and cleanliness are Japanese number 1 priority for most of the hotel I stayed before. Gambateh!

Older hotel, but very convenient location
We arrived at the hotel to find out we were halfway through a scheduled time to use the hotel private olsen. This was not communicated before hand and we missed our time. There were yukatas provided to use around the hotel which was kind of fun. There are not dinner/breakfast options outside of the hotel, and the hotel prices are quite high. I recommend getting breakfast food and dinner before checking in or returning for the day. The beds were not comfortable. I put a futon mattress over the bed mattress and that was fine. We could not figure out how to turn the heat down, so it got a bit warm. Great location. Beautiful town very near the lake. The public olsen in the hotel was open 24 hours. Very convenient.

Yumoto hot spring
Easy 5 minute walk from yumoto bus stop. Lovely hotel loaded with Japanese charm and hospitality. Had dinner and breakfast on site since very few other locations open in late winter. Sulfur hot springs nearby fed hotel onsens. Be sure to take the walk around the lake to see the "hot" waterfalls on the opposite side. Then walk 7k back to Lake Chuzenji across the plateau if you like. Beautiful with snow fields and mountains all around.

Great stay.
The service was amazing. All of the workers were super friendly and nice. The stay included Japanese cuisine and that was excellent as well.
It is an old facility. Room is a bit dark. Onsen is small as expected.
Yet, food is great, cost is fair. Most important, the staff are extremely helpful and nice.
