Staff was very helpful in helping me find transportation. Very well located- close to restaurants in downtown and close to the bus stop that goes to airport which was a huge savings in cab fares.

good value
This is a good home base if you are looking to hang out in Santa Elena for a few days. It's a nice hostel with private rooms. I wouldn't suggest sharing 1 bed, they were very soft. I'd upgrade to the bigger rooms with two beds. The walls are a bit thin, but that's very typical with all the places around there. If you want more, you need to pony up more money. Great location that is central to downtown Santa Elena. Overall, I'd return. Oh, and they have lots of monkeys and coati.

The location is great if you don't have a car. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is simple but adequate. Night security effective! Our major complaint was the state of our bathroom, old and worn with not enough hot water to take a decent shower. I don't mind simple but hot water is a necessity.

Not enough hot water. Heat Insulation and sound insulation are bad. But we like the location and staff.

Generally good
As hostels go it was excellent. My only complaint is that the wifi was terrible and that is really a necessity these days. Also, the bar needed more people working at night. Felt bad making the one girl run around so much.

Too cold up there 4 no hot water!
Smallest hostel rooms I've ever been in! Rooms were clean but they pack you in like sardines. Walls were so thin that we could hear everything through the walls, EVERYTHING!!! The main discouragement was the cold showers. It is far too cold that high up in the mountains to not have even luke warm water. I didn't get a proper shower my whole stay and nearly froze trying!

Comfortable hostel resort in Monte Verde area,
This was a neat hostel resort, with basic facilities, very friendly and helpful staff. Landscape was beautiful, loved the local monkeys who visited, found our room to be more than sufficient, outdoors there were hammocks and even some workout equipment. Liked that they had a kitchen with facilities that could be used to cook, store food, etc. if you didn't want to eat out. Very happy with the accommodations and would definitely stay here again. Also loved the little town of Santa Elena and being able to walk from the resort to the stores, restaurants, and shuttle services.

2/10 Poor

Bed Bugs
I tried contacting the hotel at least two times in regards to my stay and was ignored. I arrived at the hotel and was unaware that they only accepted cash due to the fact that my credit card was already billed. They claimed that was just the deposit and they only take cash, so luckily I had some extra cash on me. Everything seemed okay with my room. I had the mountain view, which was a view of the parking lot. My friend and I were freezing the whole night. I'm surprised they didn't have some form of a small heater or something to keep you warm because the blankets are really thin. I woke up the next day with extreme itching all over my legs. I didn't think much of it because I figured it was just mosquito bites. When I arrived at my next hotel I actually looked at my legs and there were full of bites everywhere and the extreme itching lasted for 3-4 days. I knew this wasn't mosquito bites. Upon further research of bug bites, I realized that they were characteristic of bed bugs. I'm so glad the hotel totally ignored my email in regards to wanting a refund back from my stay. I spent the rest of my vacation trying to hide my legs because they were so bad. Just a heads up for anyone wanting to stay in the mountain view rooms. I can't remember my actual room number though.

Beware of this hotel!!!
We arrived only to find out they overbooked, and arranged for a "cabin in the woods" for us. We didn't have a choice, because we needed to sleep somewhere, so we were taken to a family member of theirs, that had a "cabin in the woods" behind their home... The family was really nice and did their best for us. Their hosting cabin was very basic, but we really didn't need much. However, since the cabin was made out of planks of wood that didn't fit very well together, and being in the middle of the rain forest... we found 4 very large spiders inside the place. I mean big, fat, 3-4 inch spiders... At that point, my daughters decided they can't stay the night, and rightfully so. It was late in the evening, and I went back to the hotel's reception, and asked for a decent room. The staff really tried to help, and after 90 minutes on the phone, they came up with only a single option – a smelly 4x2 meters hostel room with two bunk beds and shared bathrooms. Obviously we took it. Better than to get bitten by giant spider at night. The next morning I asked for all my money back and the nicest room available. They did get me a room on premise for that night, because some people have checked out. But refused to give me any refund. The staff was empathetic and tried to help. It is the hotel owner and his over-booking policy that caused this. This is no way to run a business, and I urge you not to book with him, because he doesn’t deserve your business, and you may get stranded as well
