Sakulchai Place Hotel is a great place to stay near Nimmanahaeminda Road and MAYA Shopping Center, and not too far from the old city/Sunday Walking Street. It has large, quiet rooms with high ceilings, comfortable beds, and decent water pressure/heat. The pool area is a bit small but does the trick to cool you off during hot summer days. There is a small gym (no AC inside), and the onsite restaurant has fair prices. Only complaint about the hotel is the wifi is extremely annoying: they give you these internet cards with usernames and passwords that expire constantly. If you put your phone down and let it lock, you have to re-login to the web. I don't understand the purpose of having such terrible wifi but I guess there is a reason. Anyway, aside from this annoying feature, the wifi is pretty good for SEA standards. (Oh, also, very standard for SEA but the key needs to be in the room to allow the AC/lights/electricity to work, so you can't leave anything charging while you are out, or keep the room cool. But, I support wanting to save energy 100%, just different than most hotels in the US).
