Overall, a decent, no-frills hotel. I think they could be a much better value if they set up wifi, make their breakfast a bit fancier, and provide shower temperature adjustment.
LOCATION: The hotel is a bit far from Georgetown (~25min walk), but there are some good hawker food locations very close.
ROOM: It's an old, functional, but clean and tidy building. There was a bit of mold growing in the grout in the bathroom, but I noticed this in all 3 Penang hotels I stayed in. This one had less than average. The toilet has a bidet. The hot water requires turning on a switch outside the bathroom, waiting for the in-room boiler to heat up then using it. As there is no control on the heat, you have to time when you use it so it's not too cold or scalding hot--this is very bad plumbing retrofit on the part of the hotel.
AMENITIES: The pool in the back is very nice. An shared ironing board in the hallway looks like it hadn't seen much use. Breakfast was included which were noodles one day, congee, an egg-frying station, and toast machine. It's good enough, though I'd recommend skipping the free breakfast to go out to get a better flavorful breakfast since you're staying in Penang.
WIFI: The wifi apparently hadn't been working for a long time such that they had notices about it. I looked around and actually didn't see any wifi routers visible in the room or the hallway near my room so I think they just don't have wifi in the rooms.
