This is an amazing property built within a fortress and palace of the late King of Portugal. The rooms, facing a beautiful view of the water, look onto a marina with shops and restaurants. During the evening DJ music can be heard from the marina up to 2 am which can affect sleeping conditions. There are two very nice pools which added a lot of value to my experience. The outdoor pool is a bit of walk up some stairs but the ocean and grassy area around the pool is very nice. Unfortunately, there was no pool services outdoors where used towels and dishware sat. It was hard to find a clean towel.
As a five star property , I expected the bed comfort to match the rating. Unfortunately, it did not. The mattress was soft and bouncy and needed replacement. My back hurt getting up every morning and that affected my overall experience.
The hotel provides a wide array of food for breakfast including fresh squeezed juices, made to order coffee drinks, pastries , breads, meats, cheeses, vegetables and made to order eggs and omelettes. As a gluten free eater, there was no pastries to choose from and the small amount of bread they provided was packaged in plastic and not very good.
I really enjoyed the location being close to town but away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy town of Cascais. There is a very nice walking and biking path from the hotel that overlooks the ocean. The art district that surrounds the hotel adds a lot of value and interest to the property.
