We had a lovely, relaxing time at this resort. One drawback was that very few of the staff spoke English, which we did not expect, but which was panic-inducing when I thought that one of my children had been injured while para-sailing. It would be nice if staff with multiple language skills could be somehow identified by their ID or some other means.
The activities staff were especially courteous and engaging; they became our go-to contacts when our (pretty good) Spanish did not suffice.
We rented a car to drive from Quito to the resort. We would caution urban US drivers to be prepared for a new experience including but not limited to: mountain driving (lots of switchbacks), a fair amount of road construction near the coast including sections of road missing but not always blocked off, slow zones and speed bumps in rural areas where villages front the road, and, lots of livestock. We obeyed the speed limit signs, gave local drivers the right of way, exercised caution and patience, and got the hang of things quickly. We would not recommend making this drive at night if you are not from the area.
