A Yamagata Gem
A wonderful ryokan in Yamagata! Staff are amazingly friendly and the service is outstanding. The facilities are a bit dated, but very well maintained. The english skills are very minimal as this area is not a popular tourist spot, but the staff go out of their way to help. The in-room soaking tub is amazing, filled with spring water that left all of our skin soft and refreshed. The public bath was beautiful with an indoor and outdoor area. The Internet speed was decent, with free WiFi in every room. Breakfast was provided each morning, and there are western and Japanese options available. We stuck with the Japanese options, and were blown away by the quality and deliciousness. We added the kaiseki style dinner for our 2nd night (a 3000 yen/person option) which was amazing and such a wonderful deal! Valet parking is provided as there is limited space but the staff were efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back to explore more of Yamagata. Tip: a rental car is a must in this area.
