Amazing staff. Location perfect, except taxi's can't find it. Expensive for this area. The building's history really adds to the uniqueness of the property.

Unique Stay At Historic Hotel
This was a truly unique visit in an historic building tucked in the city that has grown around it. It is like staying in the Forbidden City. I was told the original sight was over 300 years old, but I didn't get a clear answer on which part of the building, if any, were actually original. Multiple wonderful courtyards to explore and artifacts throughout the hotel. They put on formal Chinese dinners complete with traditional live music. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the Metro station which goes through pedestrian only street with nice shops, bars, and restaurants. It is a little pricey for the actual room, but if you crave something unique, it's worth the extra $$.

Good location and hotel
Amazing location and facilities. I booked a room that was supposed to hold 3 people based on the description and had to pay 400RMB extra for a cot.

Great neighbourhood deep in the Hutongs
Nice hotel with charming traditional Beijing courtyard. Hardware in the rooms are a bit worn and lacking attention to details. Service is good in general but somehow our request for a taxi to the airport, delivered 3 times, over a period of 3 days, never reached the concierge and we almost missed our onward train journey. The Hutongs in the neighbourhood are the best aspect of choosing this hotel. They are full of independent restaurants and shops and are exceedingly charming. But this also renders the hotel a bit difficult to find for taxi drivers. It's recommended to have your map loaded in advance to help the taxi drivers find the hotel.

Days of Glory Past
Beautiful exterior, worn out interior, friendly staff. Hotel has seen better days. In great need of an infusion of cash to bring it back to 4 or 5 star status. Carpets worn and dirty, little or no hot water. Never figured out breakfast, sometimes they had a minimal, and I mean minimal breakfast, more often than not, nothing. Staff was great though.

Great, non-corporate hotel
The hotel staff was fantastic. Gave us a detailed map of the city, oriented us to the major tourist sites in Beijing, helped us with taxi rides, checked our departing flight for us and ordered food for us after hours. The hotel was actually a building for Qing Dynasty officials and retains the ambience of older Chinese architecture. That alone makes it worth the stay if you can tolerate being away from another anonymous corporate hotel.

Great location - hard to find, worth the effort.
If you are looking for a hotel in Beijing that is not the usual bland multi-national chain , then this is the place for you. An oasis of calm in the middle of the city and close enough to walk to many of the local attractions. For those further away it is close to a metro station. Staff were friendly and the accommodation of a good standard. The one challenge is finding the place! It is in the "hutongs" which are a sprawling area of old alleyways. The initial approach is along a busy, touristy, bustling hutong - after that it is a leap of faith to walk down a much darker, narrower alley with no clear indication that a top class hotel is situated some way down it. It is worth the effort, full of character with the rooms arranged around tranquil courtyards containing pools of carp.

The hotel is difficult to find but ideally located in the Hutong area. The style and design are fantastic and really provided us with the best possible old China experience. We loved it!

Beijing Blitz
Great location secreted between 2 lane ways which is dead quiet. Great place to retreat t after a hectic day on the busy streets. At the end of the street is another laneway full of restaurants and shops - plenty for everyone. Close to Tianamin Sq, Forbidden City (about 3 ks) and some very nice gardens. Good market shopping also close by at which your offer should be about 20% of the initial asking price. Great bartering to be had. Definitely recommend.

Mostly very good
The room was beautiful. The hotel is beautiful. BUt you can't control the heat settings in the room. Only way to do that is to open the windows. The "western" restaurant is really just a bar with limited and not very good food, not very good wine, and a bartender who can't speak english. Be prepared. Or go out to the pedestrian mall to eat. Hotel is on a tiny street that isn't very accommodating to vehicles so don't be surprised if the taxi driver lets you off in the back of the hotel or down several streets or 15 minutes of a walk away from the hotel. Seems Beijing taxi drivers think its ok to drop you quite a ways away from where you actually want to be. Sucks in the cold. Again, being ably to communicate in Chinese helps when this happens. There is usually one hotel staffer who can speak english very well and she seemed to always be somewhere close by. However there isn't much room to negotiate with her regarding securing drivers to do the touristy things around town or to the Great Wall. It's one way, one price regardless of how much or how little time you have to spend out for the day. Again, not a criticism but be prepared that this is just the way it is. It's a convenient location, and the walking mall is great. I'd stay here again, but I know better how to do it next time.

Excellent experience
The hotel located perfectly near the busy walking street which come with lots of local authentic handmade stuff and delights. It is also 5 mins walking distance to train station. The hotel is clean , big and giving an excellent experience . It has a fish pond with bridge and big garden . I am regretted that I only have a night stay. I definitely recommended and will stay in again if I am visiting Beijing.

Boutique hotel in Hutong
We checked in at start of October during cold weather snap - hotel room was very cold, and very dusty. We were very fortunate that the hotel was able to relocate our room to a sunny courtyard area which was fabulous. The room was clean and tidy - much better cleaner that other room. The hotel breakfast is overpriced and below a recommendable standard. The hotel staff whom spoke english were great the girls were able to organise private taxi etc however we felt they could have known more about current tourist happenings like Tianamen Square being closed to tourists. Close to subway and hutongs for dinner

Was just great to wake up to the view of a quiet chinese courtyard. When we travel we try and stay in places that give you a real sense of place. Was fun to explore the entire hotel and all the different courtyards and common rooms. Beds and linens were very nice. Did not try any of their food, as there are so many interesting places to try nearby.

Beautiful Hotel
This was a lovely hotel. We normally stay at 5* but decided on something more authentic this time which I am so pleased we did. The hotel was beautiful. The room was great. The staff were exceptionally helpful. We would stay there again and recommend it to our friends.

Overrated and poorly maintained
I had a four night stay in September. On arrival, I was brought to my room , which stank of mould and was much smaller than warranted. I wss next brought to a second room similar to the first. The management was indifferent . The third room was only slightly better. The bedroom was large, but the adjacent sitting room/ salon area was uninhabitable due to an unbearable smell of mould. The management and staff remained indifferent and uninterested. Breakfast was second rate. The hotel property generally is not well maintained . The prospect of a stay in a charming if old fashioned hotel in reality turned out to be a visit to an overpriced and rather mediocre, worn out and somewhat dingy hotel. The room fixtures such as cabinet, lamps, wall coverings and carpets and drapery were dusty , old and worn and ill ill repair. The halls and public areas in the hotel are extensively and richly furnished with carved Rosewood, but this does not finally allay the fear that the hotel has seen better days and much more needs to be done to improve the hotel. The hotel is in a good location next to commercialized hutong neighborhood , close to Subway . All in all I was quite disappointed with the hotel , but did not let it detract from an otherwise excellent and stimulating visit to Beijing.

Great. Simply great!
So, we decide to splurge a little and make reservations for the last night in Beijing at Han's Royal Garden Hotel, and we were not disappointed! Right off the bat we are notified that we'd get a free upgrade to a suite (there were only two normal rooms available when we arrived, so I think they wanted to put us in a more expensive room to clear the way for any potential late night arrivals). To make it even better, the room was already booked at a 50% discount! The hotel is built around and inside an ancient (1450s) Ming dynasty general's residence, and is absolutely stunning. It is both quiet and secluded, despite being right in the middle of the bustling night life area of Beijing. The room itself was fantastic; living room and bedroom with plenty of space, and a bathroom spacious enough to host a Mongolian horde if they ever decide to invade again. The staff were super friendly and professional, including several westerners, making it easier to communicate if you should have any issues. The room service is affordable and the Cheesecake is absolutely to die for. Both delicious and juicy, it only sets you back $3.50 even when ordered at 1am. Fast internet comes with the room. The only issue is that in the middle of summer it can get a little humid. There is nothing really to be done with it though, as the air conditioning was working perfectly, and made it nice and cool. Would definitely recommend.

A Different kind of hotel
My three-day stay in the hotel was very pleasant. The hotel is located in traditional Chinese neighborhood which is safe and close to one of famous sightseeing location in Beijing, easy to get tax. The customer service is excellent, when I want to order train ticket through their carriage service, they went out to buy the tickets for me when they are onoine booking system is down. Highly recommend .

Excellent Hotel in a Charming Neighborhood
We stayed there for 9 days while in Beijing for work. The staff was friendly and helpful, the hotel was authentically beautiful and the neighborhood was charming and comfortable. While I'd wholeheartedly recommend the hotel to anyone, people on business trips need to be mindful that taxis are not right out front of the hotel and its a process to have one called for you. That was a minor inconvenience considering there's a subway stop nearby and tons of bus access. Plus the neighborhood itself is quite walkable and close to main attractions. Stay here - you'll love it!

A Different Beijing Hotel Experience
This is a courtyard hotel situated within walking distance of Nanlougaxiang Hutong, Yan Dai Xie and Hou Hai. Wonderful place to stay in Beijing if you wish to experience something different from the cookie cutter Marriots and Shangrilas. There is no gym or pool. What you get instead are several beautiful Chinese-themed courtyards and museum like decor. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but had a few drinks by one of the courtyards which was very enjoyable. It felt like I was transported back in time to an olden Chinese Mansion. Rooms are generally ok. Nothing to write home about, but comfy and large. The hotel quite honestly needs a bit of renovation. The carpets and room finishes are starting to show their age. And the integrated bathtub-shower design was impractical. (overflows when using shower) Not a 5 star hotel, but my wife and I still thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will recommend this establishment for those wanting a different and more authentic Beijing hotel experience.

Fantastic Hotel
This is the place to stay in Beijing if you have several days to experience this great city. Staying in the Hutong really makes a big difference from the big hotels. You feel like you are in China. This is luxury in the middle of the Hutong. If you can afford it and have the time, this is the place. We stayed nine nights and could have stayed longer, it is great and worth it.
