It was very clean the snacks available were nice car park was good and they got me soya milk and gluten free bread
First room had broken tatty shower and air con that didn't work got moved to alternative room nice shower no toilet seat they said they couldn't get one it wasn't comfortable!
Air con wasn't that effective
Staff were very mixed some helpful some quite rude
It was up a hill that was blind and didn't have any pavement
The breakfast was a very strange selection no toaster available and the fruit juice was very watered down the water heater broke and it was hard to get water for tea and you were shouted at if you tried to get it from the coffee machine!
Great potential needs good management

Don’t stay here during heat wave
We stayed here one night during heat wave. Unfortunately the air condition didn’t function at the same time as the elevator, and the lights went out 3 times during our stay. Apart from that the hotel is a bit worn down, but the service was friendly and breakfast ok.

Great location if visiting Sacro Monte Di Orta
The hotel is located very close to Sacro Monte Di Orta. The breakfast was adequate, the WIFI did not work in the rooms. They were being installed while we were staying there. They had WIFI on the first floor but the first floor was not air conditioned. The staff was very friendly in fact they drove us the 1/2 mile to the train station the day we left.

Lovely quaint town
Actually stayed at the hotel’s alternative location in downtown Orta San Guilo. Much better location than the original hotel. Staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was amazing. Ask to stay in their downtown location. Love Orta San Guilo

Wonderful staff, slightly out of town.
We stayed at the Santa Caterina for a couple of nights in May. The hotel is a little way from the lakeside in Orta, but for us it was a good location. We arrived from Turin by train and the hotel was a short walk downhill from the station. The hotel staff were all really friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. The hotel itself is pretty basic, and the WiFi only really worked in the ground floor, but it wasn't an issue for us. Breakfast was buffet style and there was a small area downstairs to make tea and coffee along with a selection of juices throughout the day.
A small walk down the road from the hotel took you past the beautiful hotel Crespo and there is a delicious gelato bar here next door to a bar.
We took the long walk lakeside down to the town and enjoyed the peace and scenery, but there is a quicker way too.
All in all, we both really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again.

A pleasant, friendly typical small hotel, close-15 minute walk.to Orta st Guilia. Clean, need to be away from the road if possible as we were. Fantastic breakfast. Free coffee and cakes downstairs! Would recommend. Only problem is wi fi-available only on the ground floor and sometimes not even then.

Best breakfast in Italy
Hotel Santa Caterina is clean, reasonably comfortable, and the staff are mostly friendly and helpful. Especially Serena! The buffet breakfast is amazing. It is not luxury, but it does the job at a reasonable price.

Good value for a week stay
Old fashioned hotel. 3 star. But great Buffett breakfast, plenty of choice and fresh each day.. Nice touch of coffee, cold drinks and cakes and yogurts to help yourself to.. Free wifi, patchy and only near reception.. Rooms basic, but clean.. Old style hotel with comfortable beds.. Choose a balcony room facing downhill.. We booked last minute, cheap deal to the lovely lake.. But you can't see lake at all from here.. Up the hill from main square 15 min brisk walk.. Not for the faint hearted .. Hotel is downhill walk from train station, bout 8 mins.. But not really near anything.. We would choose to stay in the square area next time as the walk up hill to the hotel in the heat was wearisome ! Go for one with a bathing area.

Good value for money
The hotel provides good value for money. Cleaning service was a bit slow (room done around 5 pm or so). A short walk from the city centre, but that was OK.

A magnificent place to see
Many lovely walks along the Lake, with cherry blossoms, Magnolias, and camellias out in April. Ferry trip to the top of Lake Orta was wonderful. Would have liked to have stayed longer than 2 days.

Good value hotel with very helpful staff
We were very impressed with the welcome and the receptionist was extremely helpful, even providing us with pliers and a screw driver when we couldn't open the padlock on one of our cases. The room was adequate and clean and the shower was good.
The choice of food at breakfast was excellent and we liked the availability of free water, soft drinks and cakes after 3 pm.
The only downside was the lack of a path on the road outside the hotel.

Quirky hotel
My husband and I (50s) stayed 6 nights in September. The room was on second floor. It was adequate for our needs and clean. The bed was firm but we like it that way. The location is on the edge of the town on San Guilio and a nice walk into the old town by a path along the lake. The return is uphill at the very end, but we are fit so managed this fine.
The breakfast buffet is expansive and there is a hospitality room open each day from 3pm where you can make yourself tea/coffee and cake.

HOTEL CATERINA EXPERIENCE
We found the staff pleasant. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The best thing were the fantastic breakfasts - an absolute feast! The free hot and cold drinks and tasty snacks were a very good feature and welcome on return from a day out. Lake Orta is a bit off the main tourist route out of season and we found, without a car, that getting to other places was difficult. (May) We found that the hotel staff and the two tourist offices were unaware of the possibilities of public transport. With a bit of initiative we found our own route via public transport to Lake Maggiore which proved very easy. More information would have been good. It is not easy to get to Orta from the airport without a car. We decided to book a taxi which was a very good idea. The taxi firm were excellent. There is almost enough to do at Lake Orta for a week without travelling elsewhere and plenty of lovely eating places, several within easy reach of the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday.
