So. There were definitely positive aspects - the service was mostly excellent, and the grounds of the hotel were lovely- from the gardens to the pool to the beach. Breakfast was also quite nice. The decor of the hotel was hard to get past - very tired, old 1960s kitsch. The gym was also Spartan and had no A/C. The biggest issue was that my room smelled strongly of smoke- it was clearly deeply embedded in the sad old furniture, because the hotel had just reopened and the smell was strongest after I came home from dinner and the maids had closed the door to the balcony. When I asked to switch rooms, the front desk said that the smell was merely from a nearby guest smoking on an adjacent balcony- which was clearly not the case. Also, the A/C didn’t seem to work.
If this property had a major renovation, it would have a ton of potential- until then, I’d skip it.
