6/10 Good

The hotel lobby and common facilities were very good. The view from room the view is stupendous and overlooks the royal Mandalay Palace and moat. 😀 The room is however old and the bathroom older. The toilet did not flush at all and we had to complain a number of times 😡! Besides, the room wasn’t well insulated and it was uncomfortably cold in the night at 12c. The air conditioning only cools and there is no room heater. HOWEVER, the Chef Mr Mukul Agarwal and his team are simply brilliant 😀👍. They cooked up some amazing meals for us and lavished care and attention during our stay. The Chef made many Burmese vegan delicacies and he and his team more than made up for any misgivings we had about our stay at the hotel.

It has a grand looking and tall ceiling in the lobby and corridor. It should be one of the best Hilton properties. It is also near to the tourist popular royal palace and Su Taung Pyi.

Hotel is renovating. Sometimes lift didn’t work due to service. But no information about this to residents. Overall, had a great stay apart from some loosed wall plugs.

2/10 Poor

Old hotel in need of drastic upgrade
The hotel needs a drastic upgrade: carpets are old and smelly, old and noisy air conditioners cannot keep up with the heat, room toiled was not working well, elevators worked randomly, fumigation was done outside while people were enjoying the pool and everywhere in the hotel (restaurant, washrooms, lobby, ) one sees these air freshners put there to cover up the bad, if not almost moldy, smell. I stayed there last year and it was never that bad. Things deteriorated 100% since last year, Renovations are taking place, but this is taking way too much time. The only redemptive thing is the quality and niceness of the staff. In fact, one feels very bad for them, as clearly Hilton has let them down. I will not return there even when the place is upgraded. I also stayed at the Hilton in NPT, which was so much better. However, because of the bad state of the Hilton in Mandalay, my next trip will see me staying in Accor hotels throughout Myanmar.

4/10 Fair

The hotel lobby is just beautiful, and the hotel has a very jazzy age feel mixed in with traditional features. The hotel itself is very lovely, however the rooms are a little run down, thers no shower option, only bathtub which is inconvenient, it is is a little dated. The windows don't open in the rooms which can leave you with a suffering with cabin fever., and im not quite convinced that the air con does work accurately The cleanliness does lack a little in areas such as the showehead.. and also the wndows looking out in the city are quire dirty, but i do think its more of a renovation issue,,, I didnt have a great nights sleep, there was a lot of noise from the water fountain at the entrance of the hotel even tho i was on the top floor, and also noise from the traffic outside and the whole hotel is lit from the outside, which does light up the room even with the curtains shut. On the positive side, it is probably one of the better hotels in Mandalay and the pool area is lovely. I think with more work done to the rooms this would be a great stay... I would say with Mandalay hill just a stones throw away, it would be great if the hotel had a shuttle bus service as it would going around much easier.

Great location opposite to Mandalay Palace. Well trained & courteous staff who are focused on guest care. Very old & slow lifts, need upgrade immediately. The central Aircon did not work during the night & sleep quality was poor. The bathroom tiles are cracked.

2/10 Poor

Whilst there's a lot to like about the hotel - location, decor, general up-keep of the facilities, etc, there were two glaring issues. (1) The fact that half the ground floor was undergoing extensive building works. (2) The fact the staff were unable to do anything other than try charging me more money to resolve it. The noise from the power tools, etc, could be heard 4+ floors away - loud enough to prevent sleeping. The hotel insisted I pay a surcharge to sit in the executive lounge to try to have somewhere quieter to work (it was still too noisy for a phone call, and I was still expected to pay). The only alternative: "Go outside". In the midday sun. To do work. I can sit in a park for free, thanks. No warning this was going to be the case in advance, no attempts at making my stay better despite this; just charging me more. A number of other things feel a bit "unfinished" - service at breakfast, missing items in lobby bathrooms, etc; all of these could be forgiven and didn't really detract from what's a nice hotel. I'd generally deduct a point for the bland restaurant options from a relatively up-market hotel (hopefully addressed by whatever the building work will result in delivering), but it would otherwise be a nice place to stay. For my personal experience and the lack of addressing it in any way that salvaged the stay, I can only give 1*, though.
