I had to do a stopover in Singapore traveling alone on a long flight from Europe to Australia. I've lived in Singapore before but on the west side of the island and didn't really know Chinatown. I chose Hotel 1929 because of its heritage building and surroundings.
Yes the bar next door was loud Friday night (until about 2am) but since I am used to sleeping with earplugs at night it did not bother me at all, and frankly I LOVED it, relaxing in my bed or sitting working on my laptop at the table on the sidewalk in front of the building, looking out on the beautiful street grooving to the music and feeling like I was in the middle of things.
Adeline and Susan from the Hotel 1929 staff were very, very sweet and thoughtful, the room was spacious and airy and clean. To all of you who complain about the shower being in the same place as the toilet: that's just how many bathrooms are built in this part of the world, just put the cover down or the seat up before you shower and it is not a big deal! I will stay at the Hotel 1929 again on my way back from Australia to Europe, and look forward to seeing Adeline and Susan again. :-)
