Shaggy in South Beach
Like most hotels I have stayed with at South Beach, the lobby is amazing but the rest of the hotel is shaggy. The check-in was perfect but when I got the room there was no remote. During my search in less obvious places I ran across a lot of hairs, dust, random items…it appears the rooms are not thoroughly cleaned very often. The staff quickly brought up a remote.
The elevators, hallways and rooms are pretty beaten up. There is very little natural light and almost as little inside light. The room that is most poorly lit was the bathroom. A single recessed light barely illuminated a dingy but spacious area. The toilet had a seat but no lid so it yawned up at you as you brushed teeth.
The AC ran continuously and the thermostat did not seem to work. My choices were to turn it off which resulted in feeling smothered or leave it on and freeze. The screen said 75 degrees but I am pretty certain the room state do the low 60s. I like a cooler room but I found myself not wanting to be in there any longer than necessary.
There was free coffee which was good and breakfast was available for purchase but I did not dine there. Everyone from the desk to housekeeping to maintenance staff were friendly and helpful.
In most places, this would be a terrible review but in Miami, this is average in my experience. The location is good. There are many options there (I have yet to find one that is affordable that i would stay at twice) and I would pass on this one next time.
