Close to everything
Our stay at the Great Southern Hotel was quite comfortable. Although they were not able to rectify a plumbing issue over the weekend, the reception did their best to do so & made up for it with free breakfast vouchers. Otherwise our room was very large & comfortable with a lovely view of the main street with double glazed windows, so no traffic noise.

Rude staff on arrival
On arrival to this motel the line was very long, due to a injury my mum tryed to check us in and was told she couldn’t after waiting in line for 20min and that there was no car parks available ( even know I had call twice to ask about car parking) the stuff were so rude didn’t even tell us where our room was on level 6. Payed $360 for two people for one night on a Friday night, there is holes in carpet rubish under the beds, list goes on, if it was a cheap room you would stay here but at this price and the rudeness I wouldn’t recommend it at all

Disappointing stay
While the Great Southern Hotel Melbourne has its positives, such as a convenient location, fast check-in, and courteous housekeeping staff, my overall experience was disappointing and unsettling. The biggest issue was the lack of soundproofing in the rooms. Noise from the hallway and other rooms was constant throughout the night—everything from air conditioning units and cupboard doors slamming to pedestrian traffic outside my room could be heard clearly. On top of that, a lot of street noise filtered in, including what sounded like crackers or even gunshots, making it hard to relax. To make matters worse, my in-room phone rang three times during the night. When I finally answered on the third call, there was someone on the other end who didn’t respond, which felt very creepy. Adding to the discomfort, the room allowed a lot of light in even with the shades down, further disrupting my sleep. After dealing with the repeated phone calls, constant noise, and intrusive light, I felt very uneasy and just wanted to leave, but it was the middle of the night. If sleep, quiet, and peace of mind are important to you, I would not recommend this accommodation provider.

Handy location
We wanted to stay close to Spencer St Station, so it was perfect location for this. We were in Melbourne for the tennis so options were limited as Melbourne was so busy. The staff were helpful and the room was clean but dated. Aircon was very noisy if it was left running constantly. The breakfast was good for the price.
