The San Antonio Museum of Art has an impressive collection of ancient art from Egypt, Roman, and Greece, folk art from Latin America, international and local contemporary art, and more. The buildings of the museum were once the historic Lone Star Brewery.
In addition to the permanent collections and rotating exhibits, the museum offers regularly scheduled events such as children’s art contests, artist conversations, and more. Tre Trattoria offers seasonal Italian favorites in a beautiful setting overlooking the San Antonio River Walk. You can find great gifts and souvenirs at the gift shop as well as prints of displayed works.

Highlights of the San Antonio Museum of Art
There are several wings of permanent collections in the San Antonio Museum of Art. In the Asian art wing, you'll find a diverse collection of Chinese ceramics as well as artwork from India, Japan, and Korea. In Art of the Ancient Mediterranean World, you can see the museum’s renowned collection of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian pieces complete with coffin fragments and a mummy.
Other permanent collections include Oceanic Art, American Art, European Art, Islamic Art, Modern & Contemporary Art, Photography, and Pre-Columbian. Temporary exhibits have included Taihu Rock, Movie Metal, No Ocean Between Us, and more.

Good to know about the San Antonio Museum of Art
You'll find the San Antonio Museum of Art located on West Jones Avenue near Camden Street. You can access the museum on the city VIVA Culture bus or the double-decker hop-on-hop-off City Sightseeing Bus. Be sure to arrive early to avoid the crowds, as the museum starts to get quite busy after lunch.
The museum offers discounted rates for families who are eligible for food assistance as well as daily military discounts and free admission between Memorial and Labor Day to active military personnel and their families. While you're in the area, you may enjoy a visit to Maverick Park or The Grotto.
