The Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans is a charming and eclectic neighborhood with historic sites, dining, and nightlife. The neighborhood is perfect for those who would like to get out and explore the city outside of the traditional French Quarter experience.

Just north of the French Quarter, the Mid-City neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area, which was on the backslope of the natural Mississippi River levee, was not settled as early as other parts of the city, but it more than makes up for it now.

Mid-City highlights

Mid-City is a middle-class neighborhood and much more of a traditional neighborhood than the French Quarter, relying heavily on residents, rather than tourists, for its survival. The restaurants and other establishments here are much more varied than those in areas that are geared more toward tourism.

Along with the dining and nightlife, Mid-City is home to incredible attractions like the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, a traditional amusement park with vintage rides. You can also visit the New Orleans Museum of Art, a world-renowned art museum with masterpieces of global artwork and a sculpture garden.
