The McNay Art Museum is a modern art museum that offers an extensive collection of 19th- and 20th-century art displayed inside a Spanish Colonial Revival-style mansion. In its vast collection, you'll find more than 20,000 unique objects showcasing some of the best paintings, sculptures, and more from the modern era.

Everyone can enjoy a trip to this art museum. The classics on display are generally suitable for families with kids, and much of the subject matter speaks to the universal human experience rather than any particular niche audience. Most people spend about 2 or 3 hours here in total.

McNay Art Museum highlights

The collection itself is the most impressive aspect of a visit to the McNay Art Museum. Among its 20,000 pieces, you'll find works created by some of the most famous legends of their time, including Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, Diego Rivera, Henri Matisse, Edward Hopper, and Mary Cassatt, among others.

When you visit this museum, you'll also find the landscaping and building to be particularly impressive. The mansion itself sports a unique Spanish styling, while the surrounding landscape offers fountains and statues among the greenery. You'll even find a Japanese-inspired garden complete with a fishpond.

Good to know when visiting McNay Art Museum

When you visit McNay Art Museum, there are a few things you should keep in mind. Admission can cost quite a bit relative to other museum prices for nonmember adults, but discounts are available for teens, veterans, students, and seniors. Kids under 12 get in free.

If you're looking to get out of your admission price, you'll have to time your visit appropriately. Every Thursday from 4 pm to 9 pm, you can enjoy free general admission. If there's a special admission going on at the time, the cost is instead capped at a designated rate.
